I did write to Dr. Evil and have not heard back.
I would think anyone in the medical profession during Covid has little time for anything else besides family. Perhaps someone he mentored in his clinics or anyone I may turn to. I simply cannot get into 3rd gear. It is not bushings or the shift mechanism. Something keeps in the tranny keeps it from engaging. All the other gears work well. Happy to ship. Does anyone have some recommendations? Thanks George Ozer Wilmington,DE |

Try to get Dr. Evil’s DVD and crack it open yourself. It will be fun if you have a heated place to work.

I recommend Wills Werks Alexandria Va. Eric Wills (IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) He's my guy, he did my 901 on the 914 and also he and his dad did my 356 repair too. He's one of the go-tos for 356 transmissions and early 911 MFI setup. Attached thumbnail(s) ![]() |

Try to get Dr. Evil’s DVD and crack it open yourself. It will be fun if you have a heated place to work. I second this. I watched through the video series a few times and got to work. Currently waiting on tools. I even emailed the Dr and got a quick reply. I used the email on his website MakeMy914Go@yahoo.com I already need a new 1st/Rev slider (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) |

You may have already done this, but check the cone screws on the shift rod, especially the one at the transmission cover. Early Last year I replaced the rubber boots on the shift rod and had to remove the cone screw. I had seen warnings about DO NOT REUSE the cone screw… but I was in a hurry and reused it. Started driving in the fall and after @600 miles, I noticed I could not get 3rd gear… then I remembered what I had done. I took off the plastic transmission cover and voila, the cone screw was barely threaded in. I immediately ordered new cone screws (with the nylon dot) and will install them this weekend.
