It was pointed out to me at the RRC my key direction was incorrect. I installed horizontal = unlocked and vertical = locked. Is that right or should it be the other way around?
Thanks
Mike

was it diss & reassembled? My recollection is that the lock body is "keyed" to a notch on the sheet metal so if never monkeyed with should be orientated as intended?

Yes it was taken apart and cleaned. It was missing the spring and I replaced it but couldn't remember which way it went. I had it the other way then changed it after I was told it was wrong. Now I'm told it's wrong again.
So just wondering which way it came from the factory.

Edit. It's been a long time since l installed one so l went out and checked it out. The lock assembly only goes in the body panel one way. With the key in the vertical position and the actuator to the top is unlocked. Turning to the left to horizontal will lock it. With the key vertical, and the actuator to the right(9.00) it will be locked. Turning the key to the left again will unlock it.

fter installation. Get a flashlight and look before shutting trunk. The actuator should be almost touching the release lever, not to the side of it on the

I'm not sure this is the factory way, but it will avoid being locked out.

Thanks @thecabinetmaker , Curt,
I figured the guy who does all the keys and locks would know.
I just reoriented the actuator. Vertical is unlocked (pin up pushes the trunk release), turn left locked (pin pushes nothing and is locked).

Glad to help. I don't really think it makes much difference which way it points when it's unlocked.
