Anyone have a good engine builder they can recommend in SoCal? Currently looking at a VW shop called Paradise Motorsports($$) in San Marcos, or Benton Performance($$$$) in Anaheim.

a little background. Motor was built 8-10 years ago by FAT. only 40 hours on it when I got it 3 years ago. 11:1 compression, custom cam, built to race. dyno'd at 170HP on 110 Octane.
First race weekend, performed superb. Second race weekend, something broke and one cylinder wasnt firing. FAT took it apart, redid the heads, and reassembled it. Since then, its never been right.
I am done racing it, would like a good builder to evaluate what is wrong, and help me come up with a plan to either rebuild milder motor, replace it, or whatever.

Any shop suggestions??

Thanks. I remember him. in hawthorne? I did speak to him a while back. he is a good choice but he wants me to drop the motor and bring it in. I would rather he hear it running in car first. Anyway, I might give him another call.

Dave at Proformance built a few Type 1 motors for me before I started building my own. Good guy, just make sure you have a build sheet.
