A Tangerine 914-6 just sold on BAT..

According to the listing, # 610

My car is # 619 Also Tangerine..

Here are the engine and Transmission numbers of both.

# 610 showed these numbers by a COA..
# 619 I've owned for many years and know the # are original.

# 610 engine # 6404357 Transmission # 7500633

# 619 engine # 6404299 Transmission # 7500630

My VIN is 9 numbers later but my engine is 58 numbers earlier and my transmission is 3 numbers earlier...

I have been collecting this engine serial number data for 20 years and I can tell you that there is no correlation between them and the VIN, this is additionally complicated by the use of row engines. The transmission numbers are generally +/- 35 of the VIN.
The 914/6 arrived from Karmann and then were placed on the final assembly line where the engines and transmissions were married to the chassis and finally when completed stamped with the VIN. There appears to have been no effort made to line up chassis, engines and transmissions in order.

Honestly, why would there be? These were low-end high-volume offerings from Porsche and they just wanted the VW chassis in the door, get the bits stuck into the cars, and then get 'em out the door.

These weren't boutique cars, guys. Only us here in da footure think that. - GA
