In true Luft form, event venue details will be revealed in the coming weeks, but for those eager to make arrangements you can fly into OAK or SFO.
Each airport is within a 50-mile drive of our host venue this year. We will release hotel recommendations as well as a full lineup of Luft-supported events in the next few weeks.

My money is on the North Bay near the Sears Point Racetrack (Sonoma Raceway), which is about 50 miles north from each of the two airports.

It was awesome last year in So Cal. They had cars from the Porsche Museum including a 916. MSDS brought the Lemans Sunoco winning car.
The previous Universal Backlot was better though.

So they are telling you that you must purchase admission tickets prior to having your car registered and we don't know where in the SF Bay Area the venue will be? Am I missing something?

@Steve

Can you maybe start a thread with some pics of the blue car???
The blog car looks silver, yet the blue avatar looks really well done.

James - no, I think you have it right. In the past they have taken the approach of separating people attendance and car selection; for Luft 6, if your car was accepted, there would be attendance tickets allocated to the driver/owner, even though the attendance tickets had "sold out". I am guessing they are taking that one step further (and controlling attendance more tightly), by asking you to secure attendance in advance of any car selection.

They are secretive about venue as in the past, while the choices are interesting and unusual (Universal Studios backlot for instance!), they can be sensitive to traffic access and overcrowding at the event. I guess theres a "big reveal" element as well which adds to the intrigue and brand.

- Tony

Agree with @SirAndy . Hotel recommendation in Vallejo also means it's happening close enough to Petaluma that I'm hosting a BBQ at the Red Barn on Sat, 4/29. Let me know if you plan to attend so I can be ready.

FYI, for those who are traveling and staying over night...I see they are recommending hotels in the Vallejo area so please be aware that Vallejo has some rough parts and plenty of criminal activity in the area.

Just want to ensure that the people attending and their cars will be safe. My recommendation would be to stay closer to Napa.

My guess is that they use parts of Mare Island in Vallejo for Luft 9. I don't think they would use Sonoma Raceway as they are holding an SVRA race that same weekend.

Just my $.02 since I live pretty close to this area.

Thanks Mike!

My wife and I should be attending at least one of the days as we are less than 30 minutes away (she wants to drive her 914). That said, if anyone needs any tools, hardware or help while they are in the area please let me know. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smash.gif)

Cheers,
Dominic

EDIT: Just bought general admission tickets for Saturday $60 each...ouch! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

There is a fellow with a big private car collection stored at Mare Island. He made his money operating funeral homes, and probably has one of the world's largest collections of funeral cars and hearses. He also has other cars as well. Sorry, I can't remember his name right now.

i agree with the caution about booking a motel in Vallejo; it has a significant crime & drug problem. Might be safer to book a place in Fairfield or Suisun.

Novato is a very good alternative to Vallejo and Fairfield.

What are typically asked for when one submits their car to this event?
