Where is the best place to get a correct positive battery cable for a 76 914? I'd like for it to fit correctly the first time (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I gather it should be 4 gauge, black and about 56" long. Probably need a new grommet for the tin also, and I do see that available.

if you want it exactly how you want it, there are places that can make you custom cables.
Truck and Machinery (forklift, tractor) places will make cables for you.

Otherwise...AutoZone.

I had a whole set of battery cables made for my old dual battery diesel...so they are not hard to find locally.

Helps to get better advice of local if you let us know where you are located.

Not really looking for custom unless I have to - just OEM replacement without the price (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I'm in Austin, TX. Not a lot of 914 expertise around here anymore...

Oreilly and Autozone carry battery cables that are almost the correct length.

Measure the original, and get a replacement the same length.

Just make sure you get the old style bolt through head and you can add these to keep from having to modify your wiring

I may have one I removed from my ‘75; I’ll measure it and post a pic.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I eventually found one at Advanced Auto Parts with all the right characteristics: Diehard Part # 45126, 4 gauge, 56”, 3/8” stud, black, copper, $18.79
