What about the ill-fated R class, wasn't that built on the Chrysler Town and Country mini-van platform. That was a POS too. My brother had one, burned through brakes every 10,000 miles Nope - that was a Mercedes Platform. Everyone loves to try to pin Mercedes poor quality during that era on Chrysler but it just didn’t work that way. Daimler bought Chrysler. It was never a merger of equals. Daimler ran the show and dictated the terms of how the business was run. In many ways the decisions made by Wolfgang Bernhard (COO appointed by Daimler) put Chrysler on the path to bankruptcy. As a result he was passed over to take the helm of Mercedes. The book “Taken For A Ride: How Daimler-Benz Drove Off With Chrysler ” is a pretty good place to start if you want to learn about what really went down. ![]() |

been specifying electrical goods for my houses for 30+ years. one word. miele. next peg down. asko. then the rest, despite the german or italian names. when it comes to that middle tier - the NZ brand fischer paykell is the equal of any of them at a lower price. for domestic refridgeration. #1 = liebherr. you get what you pay for? ---- i have clients who still have their 25 year old miele washing machines, dishwashers and ovens still going strong. in the few jobs where clients over-rode the spec and advice to choose other brands, the installed appliances bit the dust in less than 10 years. then i get called back to design adaptions for joinery to accomodate replacement items. all a waste of my time and their money. Jeez don't mention F&P to me when they built them in NZ they were rubbish as I found out, they moved production oversea's and I was told quality improved...true. Had good luck with Simpson over the years and purchased another washer as the old one died after 15yrs , turned out they moved production to China and mine was one of those ,started switching off between cycles after a month but would manually restart, service man came out and replaced control board after me telling him it wasn't that ,failed again so he replaced timer which worked fine. This went on over a long period and he replaced the main drive motor ,@ this stage the parts cost more than the machine cost ,I told him I wanted a replacement and he said he would keep replacing parts (IMG:style_emoticons/default/WTF.gif) ,I mentioned my original comment that I assumed the issue was with the drum ,he said he would have a look and found the drum imbalance switch was out of adjustment and shutting off the machine ..fixed. My point here is there are techs who don't know how to fix them anymore...sad really. |
