I think only Maryland and California cars had the extra bumper guards for 75/76.

No, that's why I asked if it was anybody here. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/slap.gif)

I was just waiting in line for the ferry in my Westy when that 914 brightened my day by driving past. So glad I had my phone handy.

My '75 was originally purchased in Oregon and has the bumper guards. It didn't have the EGR lamp, so unlikely it came up from California (or was that only on '76 models?), and doubtful it was shipped from Maryland. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

@rjames

from the 75MY training manual.

Attached Image

there is evidence that cars for california market ended up sold new in another state.
we have one on record as a 74 1.8 EC-a (california) that was sold new in Ohio.
i'm guessing they moved stock around the country if they had to. for instance if a buyer wanted a particular color.

maryland only had the bumper guards, not the calif spec emissions.
your car likely did come from maryland but was diverted to satisfy a particular order.

the only limitation on that would have been you could not sell a 49 state car in either california or maryland, but you could do it the other way around.

@wonkipop
Interesting- hadn't seen those photos/that info before. Thanks for posting! Mine is black (custom color) so I assumed it had been special ordered by the 1st owner from Oregon. But with the info you just presented, either someone in Maryland ordered it and backed out, or maybe dealers also ordered custom colors here and there with hopes of attracting buyers to fancy colors (like black (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif))?

The paperwork I got with my car shows that the first owner either sold it or traded it in after only 3+ months of ownership. I guess the love affair didn't last. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

You’re right Jeff. Good eye. The car was waiting at the light on the other side of the loading area. He turned right and headed up the hill to downtown Edmonds.
