Morning fellow 914ers!
Well, i cant seem to find ANY info online re this so hoping someone can help. I'm talking engine heater blower brackets and the correct one for a '73. I have the single hose outlet motor (which i believe is correct for a '73), but with the dual hose attachment so I can run hoses to both heat exchanger inlets (Passenger and Drivers sides). However, I cant find a single picture that shows the actual bracket and motor installed. Just lots of pictures of the installed motor, but with no shot of the bracket. I've added a few picks of various installations which look correct, and a picture of the bracket i "assume" is the right one? Thoughts guys? the PET could be mildly described as highly ambiguous on the 73 on blower mount. i feel its pretty much as per my 74 1.8. its pretty hard for me to get a good shot without taking the aircleaner out of mine which is a bit a job! but here are some shots. its basically a pipe clamp ring with a tightening nut. this clamps around the fan motor body. there is a curved bracket welded to side of engine bay (part of the bodywork in the engine bay). the bit i can't remember for the life of me is how the pipe clamp is fixed to the curved bracket. its been a few years since i had it off. but someone will remember. photos ![]() ![]() here is a shot of a 73 i had on file from research,' you can see its the same as a 74, but photo doesn't reveal how pipe clamp fits to bodywork bracket. ![]() but as i say someone is going to know how that pipe clamp attaches. wracking my dementia ravaged mind to try and remember but its not coming back. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) and you are looking for that little curved bracket down on left hand side of engine bay that it all attaches to. |

actually my dementia memory might be coming back,
i think you feed the pipe clamp through the curved bracket in body work, then you feed the motor into that and tighten the bolt. the bracket from memory (the bit hidden from sight is sheet metal). its like a flat section of curve. i think i can remember you feed the clamp through it (its like a hollow raised passage). not doing too well with words but if i took it all apart you would see instantly. but its quite a job to get all that apart down there in an L jet. hope that helps. i think that black flat sheet metal bracket that you have posted is the earlier type of mounting bracket from the earlier twin hose cars.
it mounts somehow off the fan shroud. but its not want you want for a 73 onwards with the single blower fan. |

There is also a thin rubber pad that goes between the body bracket and motor housing. I'm not near my car but recollection is that it is cut to fit the contact area of that bracket fully and is about 1mm thick.

The bracket posted in the first group of pictures is for the pre '73 cars where the heater fan was mounted above the engine fan housing. '73 and on has the smaller mount welded to the shelf on the body below the relay board.
The almost fully loosened clamp goes over the front section of the mount where there's a lip, and then the fan is slipped in from the front between the mount and the clamp. There's a lug on the fan body that sits against the forward edge of the clamp, not under the clamp. Lug is visible just left of the motor wires in the first picture posted, and in wonkipop's pic with better lighting. For the pad mentioned, I usually use a cut down piece of old intake runner boot. It slips in between the mount and the fan motor. Easiest to wiggle it in after the motor is slipped into the loose clamp. |

Bracket '73
![]() I had also added the dual hose outlet, felt it just cluttered up the engine compartment. Went back to the single hose. still get plenty of heat. |
