My parents were driving home from Vegas and had a blowout at around 50 miles out. They drove home on the rim at 15-20 mph for the next 70 miles. (On the shoulder.) Thank God they made it home.

The new rim was cheaper than a tow, and they got home a lot faster than waiting for a tow truck.

It started life as a 15 inch rim, but is now around 12.5" - 14" depending on how you measure it. I am open to offers! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif)

I guess that sometimes you're just too old to deal with this. Maybe they had to go to the bathroom really badly. So much for the front air dam.

That is a front wheel drive Fiat!

Did they complain about sparks?

It's a wonder that made it home...

No spare tire????

Many new cars don't come with a spare tire anymore, not even a space saver.

Copy that. They now come with the injectable "fix a flat" crap. This shit can damage your alloy wheel.

global problem. no one knows how to change a tyre, male or female below a certain age.
so whats the point of a spare tyre say the manufacturers. not enough RAM in their brains to deploy the spare tyre option anyway!

very unwise of said old folks to drive on the rim.
likely more damage than just the rim.
each to his own.

Just recently ditched the run flats from my BMW X5. Ride quality vastly improved and the steering and handling degradation is barely perceivable.

Now I find myself driving around with a kit of tire plugs, mini compressor, a couple cans of fix a flat and a AAA card (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon8.gif)

Anyone have an X5 mini spare you want to get rid of? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif)

So true

The OEM’s ditch the spare more often for the fuel economy, weight reduction as the primary reason. Sometimes it’s also a case of not having the space to package one.

The fact that most drivers don’t or won’t change a spare factors in to that decision too.

Some Fiat 500s do have a spare but I honestly don’t know which ones do or don’t. Maybe this one was one without?
