A customer sent me this.
Powder coated a badly rusted pedal set that he powder coated assembled.
Melted the plastic bushings and siezed every part together. He is not on this board.

Plastic melts at 420. Who would have thought….

Bruce - I need two pedal sets. One for a 67-912, one for a 914. Both are getting 915 transmissions. Let me know what you need to build them and I’ll get it out to you. Thanks mark

Probably cheaper to scrap it and buy another core than go through the labor of disassembling and stripping that mess. I hate removing powdercoat.

Not going to even try with that one. I would not use the part as rusty as they were without the powder coat.

Yup.
Did not even try. Told him he had to pay full core price. Not one savable part.

Maybe best case is to assume that he didn’t do that himself and was simply trying to pull a fast one on you? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) But that would imply he’s not too ethical (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

Anytime I contemplate a side hustle doing some variation of what you, 914Sixer, or 914Werke, Spoke do, I’m left wondering how you guys deal with this sort of stuff.

He said he powder coated it. I cant imahine anyone in the powder coat business that would powder coat and assembly with nany moving parts.

Easy to pile on...but we all have our area of expertise and fund of knowledge. Don't ask me to fix your teeth, or your pedal set, but do ask me to fix your broken wrist. Bruce is the acknowledged expert here on rebuilding these, and his work looks fantastic. I've yet to send a set for rebuilding, but I expect I will at some point. Sending your parts to the expert for their evaluation seems like a reasonable thing to do. If you don't have the expertise to make a decision, let the expert do it. Making a mistake is just part of the process of learning and we have all been there. I'm just glad there is someone else out there trying to put their 914 back on the road.

Thanks for all your hard work Bruce. It is a great service you provide.

Just goes to show, you can screw up anything. I once knew of a guy who broke his bowling ball.

Last year I had an "implant specialist" drill and set an implant, only to find out from another "implant specialist" it was incorrect (IMG:style_emoticons/default/screwy.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/screwy.gif)

Kinda glad I am 70 y/o and will not need to deal with this crap for another 50 years.

It's a miracle we have made it this far
