I've seen 45' of butyl tape recommended to do a windshield and rear glass - which seems excessive to me. Will less not get it done? How much is actually needed?

at 914rubber

https://914rubber.com/window-butyl

front takes two rolls @ 15 feet each, back is one roll @ 15 ft.

I did my back window and did not use all of it.

Yeah I saw that, I was thinking that their description ^ probably meant that you’d need to buy 2 if ONLY doing the windshield & 1 if only doing the rear glass, ‘cause 45ft sounds like a hell of a lot extra to me. I’ll measure and figure it out, thanks.

Yea, that’s obvious tbh.

But can someone confirm that they bought and needed three 15ft rolls to do both? Makes since that one for the rear and one for the front (w/ left over from the rear, if needed) would work.

914rubber would know of course, but I’m suggesting that the wording of the description may be (UN)intentionally misleading. Hopefully someone will confirm one way or the other and/or I’ll just measure the openings.

So I measured the windshield opening and got a little over 12ft

Then I measured the rubber substitute windshield seal specific to the 914, that I have on hand. Got a little over 13ft.

So why does 914Rubber say you need two for the windshield?

I guessing it's unintentional - and should actually sayi you'll need two to do a front AND back set... ie, 2 needed per car (but they leave out the "IF you're doing rear window at the same time" part)

Actually they say two for the windshield and one for the rear window.
