Recently a moderator closed a thread discussing the delivery of Korijo's van. The thread was closed not because of a flame war, or because of ad hominem attacks, or even because the thread treated others on the board in a disrespectful manner. The thread was closed because a flame war "might have started." This is a poor reason to shut down speech.
Grown adults should have the right to be able to participate in a respectful debate. I think we can handle it. Douglas |

Pam was very critical of my participation in the "electronic lynch mob". We discussed it for 45 minutes before she posted.
She has some valid arguments: including that not only the members who posted firebomb/boxcutter "comments"... but the BBS itself could be held liable for communicating a threat. I was pissed about the way Lisa handled the situation, and still am (to some degree). I hate editing stuff (unless it's spelling errors on titles, or sizing pictures down). But, I did some editing on that thread to clean stuff up. But some of what we said was over the line. Maybe not over the line of "free speech", but definately over the line of "decency". I don't agree with everything Pam said - but her points WERE valid, from a perspective (that at least partially opposed mine). spoken as "914club member", not "boyfriend of Toolwench" -Lawrence |
