Hello! I am a new member. I have been lurking for a while now just reading and absorbing all of the great info on this site. I dont have a 914 yet but I am looking. Looked at an original 1971 2.0 6 cyl. today. The owner wants 5K. Will attach some pics and let me know what you all think it is worth. Thanks!

if you don't want it, i'll take it! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif)

welcome to the club (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smilie_pokal.gif)

while the car certainly needs some TLC i don't see anything in the pictures that looks too alarming.
with time and money, all this can be brought back to it's former glory ...

There's that "Switzerland Equipment" again.
I wonder why it has a 120MPH speedo?
Hey, it's a 6....It's worth restoring.

Some additional info about the car. The owner said engine has not been started in two years. He has not ever driven the car, he bought it with the intention to restore and never started it. Battery tray is gone and area below it does not look too bad. I could not get a close look at that side of the car. Longs looked good to me and door seams are straight. I dont know much about these though so I may not be a very good judge. Owner says that it is the original eng & trans and he thinks it is a euro spec version because the emblem on the rear trunk says VW and something about the front turn signal having orange lenses put on when it was shipped over? He has alot of extra parts including some of the metal to replace what will need to be cut out. I have the fever but dont want to impulse buy and bite off more than I can chew! I should have put "What is this car worth" in the title of this topic and maybe I would see more replies. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/sad.gif)

It looks like a fun project, but if this is your first 914 I'd suggest getting a drivable car. It is too easy to let a project sit for years and never have the fun of driving it.

Welcome, Travis is correct. I get a lot of calls from people wanting to sell a 914 that they bought thinking they would have a fun project, that they started and never finished. Never got to drive a 914, just spent alot of time and money getting it to the point that it is worth half of what they originally paid for the car.
If you have the space and the money I would buy the 914-6 and store it and then go out and buy a nice 914 that you can drive and enjoy. The 914-6 will appreciate even in the condition that we see from your photos.
Good luck, let use know what happens.

i kind of have to agree with that. if you've nerver done a restoration before, this might not be the right car to start ...

original /6 are getting fairly rare and i would hate to see one hacked together (no offense) ...

for someone who has worked on these cars before, this would be a nice project indeed ...

hey McMark, you got space for another project car?
if so, i'll sell "Mr. rktmn247" my car and get this /6 ...

interested?

Hello and welcome (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/beerchug.gif)

From what you have show us it dosen't look that bad. A picture of the "Hell Hole" (area below where the battery should be) and the long on that side would be nice.

As to price.... a 6 roller sold for $2,200 a few months ago (on Ebay) so the price mention dosen't sound out of line.

Be prepared to spend a lot of time (& $$) to bring it back.

Are your skills up to the job?

If I buy the car I will make sure that all the work done will be up to par and I am sure I would be asking alot of questions on this site. Andy can you edit my topic title to include "what is this car worth" or tell me how to do it? Thanks!

Is the car in Hawaii? If so, the price may be right.

Yes it is. I have been here 13 years and have only seen two on the road and that was quite some time ago.
