Finally installing my oil lines and the sandwich adaptor is thicker than my old one I think. Using a Derale oil filter adaptor, model no. 15702. this is making my stock Mahle filter OC28 hang down too far and the engine mount bar is in the way.
Has anyone found a shorter filter to use? |

looks like that is same size and length. Do you know which sandwich plate you have?
But I think I found the issue. When I had motor rebuilt, we replaced cracked oil filter console. the new one looks to be mounted slightly askew, just enough that the oil filter cannot hang behind the bar, or even start threading on just behind the bar. it is about 6mm too wide. So I may need to adjust the filter console a bit. |

You need to look for a filter with a 3/4-16 thread size, oring close in diameter and thickness, oil pressure relief around 8-12 lbs and have the anti drainback rubber flap over the inlet holes. Fram makes crap filters but there site had good data. Once you find a workable filter most manufacturers have cross references to other brands. |

The filter for a 1979 924 fits and is physically smaller in diameter so it won't hit the engine crossbar if used in a 914 with a oil cooler sandwich adapter.
Hope that helps. Clay |

The filter for the 924 is around 5" long so it would hang below the engine bar.

Thanks everyone. Discovered that my issue was that the engine bar is bent at the ends which is causing it lean back about. Half inch. Once I straightened it I had the clearance I needed.

Thanks everyone. Discovered that my issue was that the engine bar is bent at the ends which is causing it lean back about. Half inch. Once I straightened it I had the clearance I needed. I am having the same issue with my sandwich plate and Mahle OC28 filter. The correct filter would hit the support bar. I am also having an issue with the clutch cable being in the way while installing. I have used shorter STP filters in the past but am a bit leery of quality and oil capacity. any thoughts ? |
