If you want to avoid drilling and or welding on the fire wall, you could find a modified early 914 4 cross bar engine carrier, some called it a "Quick Six Fix". I have used this with my 911 2.7 engine for the last four years with zero issues. I reinforced it with a length of 1"x1" angle bar welded on over its length. It has a bracket welded on its center that extends the mount forward to match up with the engine mounting bolts.
If interested, I will take and send you a few pics. |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) Marty at MSDS used to make a really nice quick six bar. I ran it over 10 years with a 2.7 and 3.2 motor. I only switched to Rich Johnson’s welded in mount so I could run heat exchangers. Beware there is junk out there that gives these bars a bad rap. |

@Steve my 'Qwik Six system was a 2 part design; .375 " laser formed, jig- welded, gusseted support on the front of engine/ and the 1.25" × .250" ga. square mount crossbar; which could be independently removed from each other allowing engine maint/ service access. On my personal flat fan biturbo engine & 916 trans (approx 550 lbs) the crossbar has never deformed/ or cracked. In use since 1st six conversion in 1978.
Still using this same design principle on the v8 biturbo engine w/ 996 gt2 trans (approx 750 lbs), and this (being a v8) uses a Left and Right side mount on a 1.25" x solid c/r steel crossbar; again no deform or defects= now holding + 200 lbs. of drivetrain. |

The problem with the "Quick Six" mounts is that they have the weight of the engine cantilevered out in front of the bar. This imparts a twisting motion into the bar every time torque is applied to the drivetrain. That fatigues the mount, and eventually it will crack and break.
The bulkhead mounts don't do this. That is the same reason we designed the transmission mount for my big six with the extra bars required to connect up the mounts without a cantilevered connection. Just my $.02 |

Just my $.02 I get your point, but Marty has been running his quick six bar since the late 70’s with a twin turbo flat six with no issues. Way more horsepower than your setup. I also ran his bar over 10 years with my Euro 3.2 and previous 2.7 with no issues. His bars were reinforced compared to other bars on the market. I built my car with his quick six back in 86. Never a problem. I switched to Rich’s mount in 2000 when I switched to heat exchangers. Kind of a moot point since nobody makes a quick six bar anymore. I would also recommend the Rich Johnson or Mad dog bulkhead dual mount. Do it once and you don’t have to worry going to a bigger motor someday. My rich Johnson mount has been used on a 2.7, 3.2 and now a 3.6 motor. |

Does anyone have a quick six style mount that they are willing to sell? We need one for a car that was set up with one but the engine (with bar) disappeared at a shop long ago and the owner wants to build the car the same as before.

The #40 Sonauto 9146gt bulkhead engine mount did show signs of fatigue when we were restoring the mechanicals of the car. This was addressed and corrected, gusseting repaired, then powder painted black, and good as new. We figured that the damage could have been from a shunt after LeMans, when it was driven in the BP Rally series.
On the aftermarket topic, I also like the way a qwik-6 bar spans the lower section of the unibody firmly secured to the T4 motor mount buckets, doubles as a chassis stress- bar. Back in 1978, on my first prototype I used 9146 rear trans mount pillows in the T4 motor mount buckets, and solid T6 aluminum in the trans mounts. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/marty914.jpg) |

While I like PMS for all the reasons stated, there may be sound arguments against.
I bought a conversion years ago with quick six bar……it hangs down low and actually hung up on trailer. Just sayin’ |

Yes it does look like the PMS bar. When we built our six conversion, we bought one of those (in about 1997) and it did not hold up to track duty. The first clue was that shifting became difficult. The reason was that the bar or the front of the 3 liter was sagging down on the shift rod. The first one bent and Patrick sent us another which also bent. We then went to a Vellios firewall mount (attached picture) which has been in the car ever since. I don't know when that design was discontinued.
