***Changed the title for better results***

Recently I bought a 1973 2 liter 914 and many people advised to join this group. So here I am (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) .

My first two questions:

1. I would like to do a proper introduction of my car: what is the best place to post? The 914World Garage?

2. I would like to get some more information on the history of my 914 (POs, what has been done, etc.) because currently I do not have much information. Again: what would be te best place to post on here?

Thanks and looking forward to be in touch with many 914 enthusiast!

Welcome, start by adding some pictures and check the vin in the Vin database.
Besides registering here you can perhaps join the Porsche 914 club... a bunch of Dutch and Belgian 914 owners who regularly organize tours, workshops and "wrenching days" ... (where we work together on our cars).

You are too late to register but 15th may the 914 international meeting starts near Brussels (first two days) and the weekend in the neighbourhood of Spa Francorchamps. 100 cars allowed but the pre-meeting and meeting are fully booked. Next year it will most probably be Italy !!!

Als je meer info wil stuur me gerust een berichtje

greetings fm Belgium

Thanks for the quick reply Dax! Too bad I will miss the International meeting!

I did just register my 914 on here (just need to add some more details and a picture). It was not on the register yet so bit afraid the history search will be a challenge..

My questions are actually regarding where on the forums to post my introduction and my history search as I dont want to clutter up the wrong section. Is "914World Garage" the best section for both topics?

Perfect, thanks guys! Guess I'll just continue my introduction here.

So my name is Marcel and I live in Hilversum in The Netherlands. I have been into aircooled VWs and Porsches for over 30 years and always had a sweet spot for the 914 but never owned one until recently I sold my 1968 Porsche 912 and bought a 1973 2 liter 914 from a well known ACVW and Porsche specialist here in The Netherlands.

Here's how the car looked when I bought it.

I am not a big fan of the Porsche decal on the bottom so that was one of the first things to go.

Much better IMHO!

Unfortunately there did not come much history or documentation with the car and I am trying to find out more about what has been done in the past and who owned her. Maybe someone here recognises the car?

I did check the VIN registration here on 914World but it was not registered yet so I did just today.

According to the paint code on the door post the car was original silver metallic (L96D) but at one point the car was painted signal orange which is not a bad choice if you ask me.

She came with a CA licence plate with a 2023 tag (the car was bought by the Dutch ACVW specialist last year and shipped to The Netherlands then)

Attached Image

In the glove box I found a 2023 insurance card on the name of Theodore Stephens and also in the glove box was a stack of notes with the name Matthew Stephens and a mileage registration starting at 11 miles in 2008 and ending at 14124 mile in 2019.

Attached Image

When I bought the car the odometer was showing 14585 miles so not a lot seem to have been added after 2019. I suspect that the car was restored and the engine (forgot to tell this is a 1974 GA 2 liter engine) overhauled in 2008 and then owned by Matt Stephens from CA and in 2019 for some reason he lost interest in the car or could not drive it anymore and eventually it changed ownership to some relative (maybe son or brother?), Theodore Stephens, who only drove it for a few miles in the next 4 years until selling it last year.

Another interesting detail is that the car has a "Rose Hulman" sticker on the back window.

Attached Image

Using Google I found out this is a tech university from Indiana so at some point in her live this 914 most have been owned by a Rose Hulman student (or at least the back window (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) ).

I found on Instagram that there is a Team Rose Motorsport page which seems to be affiliated with the tech institute and one of their cars is a modified 914 so I am planning to get in touch with them an see if they might be able to steer me in the right direction. Perhaps they are also on here?

Here's a picture of the interior.

Attached Image

Not a standard steering wheel but I like the size.

Also one of the POs added the none standard oil pressure and temp gauge. Not sure if I am happy with that because the oil pressure warning light comes on at idle every time when the engine is warm even though the pressure is around or above 20 psi.

The fuel gauge is now a 912 one and relocated to the top of the console and very difficult to read. Already happened that I almost run out of gas and looks like there is some dirt in the fuel system now as she is holding back a little when accelerating. Something to look into and I might change back to original gauges if I have the chance.

She passed Dutch inspection a few weeks ago and now has Dutch (classic) licence plates:

Sweet car. Keep the 911 combo gauge, make you a 60mm factory size fuel gauge from a 68-70 Saab fuel gauge

That looks really nice 914Sixer! Is anyone doing these conversions? Have some other things to sort out first but will definitely keep this in mind.

Funny, after seeing the first picture I thought 'Great looking car. It would look even better without the Porsche decal on the side' ...and then your 2nd picture proved me right. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Great looking car and congrats on passing inspection!
