Production month was 3 1973 so don't know how early that is? Didn't they start the model year in August the previous year? The holes for the badge are there already so might as well add it. ah yeah. you are right. that one is just missing it. Looks like there is also a Rose Hulman in CA so I was making the wrong assumption. Thanks Trojanman I think you gave me a great lead! Hopefully to be continued...

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/welcome.png) Great looking example (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif) Possible original paint? Enjoy this sweet girl in good health Thank you so much 930Cabman! The paint code says she was silver metallic originally. Signal orange paint looks very good though and looks like the bodywork and respray was done quite right. Only what looks like a small rust area on the lower left of the windshield window frame which I hope to get fixed this coming winter. |

Small update on the history search. So thanks to the lead of Trojanman I found what seems to be the last owner, before the shop who sold the 914 to me, on Facebook and Linkedin. Unfortunately both accounts seem to be inactive and I did not get any response to any private messages. So it looked like a dead end. Looking at the Facebook friends of the supposed PO I saw some with the same last name and some accounts were active quite recently. About a week ago I send a message to one of these persons and asked if they were by any chance related to the persons with the names I had from the notes and insurance card that came with the car together with a picture of the car. No response until yesterday when the lady responded and told me they are her brother and dad and the car belonged to her brother!
She is going to contact them this week and hopefully she will pass on my details so they can get in touch with me. She did tell me already the car was a birthday present for her brother and that her dad, who is now 83, used to own a different orange 914 in the 70s and used to race at Sears Point and Laguna Seca. Unfortunately this car was sold in a divorce and her dad bought this, now mine, 914 to remind him of his glory days. Her brother sold the car to pay for his dog's emergency surgery (the dog is fine now btw (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) )! Love these kind of stories and hope to get in touch with them and get some more information and history on my 914. Will post updates once I have them. Thanks again Trojanman for the lead! |

Congratulations on snagging a 914 and a California car to boot. Should have very little rust issues. Very nice, love the color.
