My parents in Atlanta had no trouble, although their old neighborhood was flooded in for half a day (the only way in & out was under 5-6 feet of water).
Cousins in Savannah have some wind damage and expect to be without power for at least 72 hours. Other cousins in Asheville have no power, no water, spotty cell service, and can't go anywhere due to blocked & washed-out roads. No ETA on repairs for any of it. |

I live in WNC and it’s a disaster zone. We finally escaped today but plan to go back once we can fully stock with supplies to support efforts.
Our small town of Burnsville NC got turned upside down. So many people trapped and are relying on helicopter support now. I find it difficult to describe the level of destruction. I’m one of the lucky ones. My property flooded but no structure damage. Doug Attached thumbnail(s) |

The size of this storm system is the largest I've ever seen. At one point last week it stretched from the pacific coast of Mexico to the gulf, took a dogleg north and went up the East coast of NA all the way up to the Artic circle. System contained both a typhoon and a hurricane.
We have been lucky. Weather is forecasted to hang around through Tuesday - which means we will have 13 straight days of rain. Thankfully we have only caught the fringes of Helene proper, but there has been local flooding and trees down all over from the storm. On the other hand, grass is growing for the first time since July. Zach |

Charleston SC suffered very little damage with a few trees downed from wind but no flooding issues.
Most damage further inland where flooding was big issue. So far 25 deaths counted in SC |

Here in central Kentucky we had 65 mph wind and 5" of rain here at my home. Many trees down and power out in the area, but I only have a few big tree branches down and didn't loose power, thankfully lucky! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif)

I have cousins in eastern Tennessee, Morristown. Anyone close to there, what are the conditions like? No response to my texts. Maybe the towers are down Morristown didn't get hit real hard. That is where some are going to get supplies such as water. They may have lost power or cell service. Areas near the rivers and low-lying areas were affected the most. But I haven't heard of any major problems in town. We are in Greeneville, at one point ALL bridges that crossed the Nolichucky were closed and there was concern about the dam failing. There was 8" of rain over a 48-hour period. flooding was fairly widespread, but it was the mountain towns that got devastated. Hopefully you hear from them soon and all is good with them. |

Here in Greenville SC we're out of power for 3 days. Some still don't have it. Used the generator from the race trailer to keep lights and fridge going. All systems restored today and no major damage. Was pretty bad around here Friday and Saturday for sure.

My sister and BIL live in Black Mountain just outside Ashville. No power, two bridges washed out and took the water and sewer lines with it. They can't get to their house. It's BAD very BAD. Luckily they were in FL when it hit. They can't go home now.

You may not get replies from people because Verizon had a huge outage yesterday.
This is the affected area: (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/images.hothardware.com-1143-1727781329.1.jpg) As of 4 hours ago, they downdetector.com was still receiving reports from Verizon customers. Bad timing for Verizon customers on the east coast. |

I live in Tallahassee, FL, Thought we were going to have a direct of 140 MPH winds. The storm jogged east and we ended up with 85mph winds and my rain gauge measured 8" on Friday morning. 53% of the city lost power. Multiple downed trees. Luckily for me no damage to my property. Generator power for a few days. We are used to the above with
Gulf hurricanes. We have had 3 in the last 13 months. When Jim Cantore shows up in your city/town you know your're going to be in for a rough time. |

I live in Keystone Heights, FL just east of Gainesville - we had wind and rain, I lost a tree and had two large trailer loads of limbs, sticks and moss to pick up but otherwise good. Reports from friends in the Asheville area of NC are not good and it will take some time to return to any form of normalcy.

I called a local friend of mine because I know he had a second house in Florida. He told me he wasn't worried because his house is 6' about the high water mark. Said it is build out of concrete block. It has withstood several storms. He called me at 6:00 am the next morning after the storm was nearly past FLa. He said his sister lives a block away and got a call from his neighbor. Said a power line came down over his house and light it up. Brand new, really brand new Chevy truck and a Mercedes in the garage.
