I have cousins in eastern Tennessee, Morristown. Anyone close to there, what are the conditions like? No response to my texts. Maybe the towers are down

Morristown didn't get hit real hard. That is where some are going to get supplies such as water. They may have lost power or cell service. Areas near the rivers and low-lying areas were affected the most. But I haven't heard of any major problems in town.
We are in Greeneville, at one point ALL bridges that crossed the Nolichucky were closed and there was concern about the dam failing. There was 8" of rain over a 48-hour period. flooding was fairly widespread, but it was the mountain towns that got devastated.
Hopefully you hear from them soon and all is good with them.

Thank you for the update. I’ll wait.

I have been watching the videos on Facebook. The amount of damage is unreal, worse than a war zone. It is going to take years for people to recover from this, and some may never recover at all. One of the worst disasters in our lifetime! So sad.

Unfortunately, I bet we will see more weather events in our lifetime.

It’s been busy days for my squadron the last few weeks. I’ve got guys spread all over southern GA clearing roads, delivering supplies, evacuating, and relocating families. And many have been stepping up even when their own homes have sustained damage.

But, I think we’re finally on the back end of the relief efforts. Next is the long rebuilding phase.

good on you mate.
thank christ western nations still have the military. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

i've just finished seeing the highlight of my career as an architect finished.
the tiniest and humblest building i have ever designed.
100 square meters of flame zone bushfire resistant community hall finished at a tiny little former timber town in the mountains down here. their hall burnt down in the apocalyptic bushfires of the summer of 2020. the stories those folks told me when i went to design meetings with them were hair raising.

it took the army 3 solid weeks to cut their way up the highway with chainsaws, bushmasters and quasi tanks getting rid of fallen burnt out trees before proper supplies could get in. helicopter drops from the army and airforce got them supplies to survive while they waited to be in contact with the outside world.

big props to the military. all of them. USA and Aus.

we have designed their hall not as a twee community hall.
no - its a survival shelter for a future disaster.
generators. deep freezer. big fridges. showers to wash the dirt off.
somewhere to go if your house gets completely destroyed.
and its got a carpark big enough to land a chopper in so they don't have to hover and winch down supplies.

The company I work for is estimating $250M in losses before Milton. That's only money. Many of the families in that area will never recover. All you people in the next path heed the warnings.
