The not a real six 1972 3.6 914 that sold for $170k is back on BAT
Will it get over $170k again? I doubt it.
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1972-pors...ampaign_2461171
Love the new video https://youtu.be/sIHG8TLuDOw?si=X3sU-GKCjtvdgyYM

Mine is similar to this one, but not professionally built and half the price.
However, I doubt there is a shop out there that that would build an equivalent car for under $200k

I keep watching it curiously...
The video on the current auction is far more tame than the original auction video and it would appear they've done some exhaust work as it also came off more civilized and not so raspy. Agree with all the comments on the last auction price hammer, seemed way out there, possible shill bidding perhaps as it put on nearly no miles and ended up with the same broker.
I would have expected some "more" for a car in that price--my points of reference being my own PMS build and Bob Burton's PMB built cars... Still looks awesome overall and I'm sure is an absolute rip to drive (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)
How 'bout them rocker panels (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

Yeah, this car and Bobs car are a totally different ballgame, if not outright on a completely different planet. One is a 914 with a big six. the other is a work of art of the highest order.

Hard to tell with the heat exchangers blocking the view, but it doesn't appear the inner suspension ears are reinforced. With that wheel and tire combination that area will fail (crack). That's really my main criticism of this beautiful build.

For a street car I think 22mm torsion bars and a 19 sway bar is way to stiff up front. I'm running stock 911 19mm with a stock bar and that feels too stiff for me.

Interesting that it has the 911 drum parking brake, but there not connected. I did this mod on my car, so I could run Boxster brakes front and rear.

The correct fit on Rockers. These where from George at AA but still needed massaging. George Dr 914 molded these from the ones on his 916

Hi Michael,
For safety reasons you should let them know you believe the inner suspension ears will crack if not reinforced. It's always good to lend your expertise. Take care!

The owner’s comments mention he has a bunch of very expensive 911s inbound for his collection, including a Ruf SCR and a Geuntherworks. Lots of wealthy individuals with car collections in Scottsdale, and the 914s have gotten so much love at Rennsport and Amelia that it’s not hard to see why you’d add this to your collection if you’re wanting something different than the other guys in your neighborhood.

To a collector like this, a 914 probably looks kind of a bargain when you compare its performance to the cost of some of the other cars he’s mentioned. $170k is like loose change on the drawer for such a collector, and unlike his other cars, you can’t easily go and quickly buy one of these builds, so it adds a fun and unique twist when he shows up to the Scottsdale cars and coffee in something none of the other guys can easily replicate without buying a real GT for a lot more.

Plus this probably drives better than many older longhood 911s that sell for more.

I’m happy when 914-4 conversions sell for big money personally, now that mine are bought and paid for….

Certainly the reserve was north of $150k.
Sometimes you need to sell things cheaper than you want and just move on.
Hanging on for the last couple thousand can be hazardous to your health (mental). Ha

Proof the buyer spent too much at the wrong time, the market has topped and they are not willing or able to take a huge loss. This will pop up again but not make the recent price I think. One comment said they had 2 to 3 times into the car. That was a mistake that should only be made by someone that loves the car and has no intention of ever selling it.

I think the owner passed away who owned the PMS Big Laguna build. Eric got a killer deal on it. I think that car was also close to a $200k build cost. @eric9144

You have to admit though, if you didn't know about the prior sale that is real good money for a conversion car.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) Look at the receipts on the shop that built it. You won't find a shop that will do that build under $200k
