I spent all day labeling gauge wires and burnishing contacts.

That is some neat and tidy labeling. How did you make those?

I know the previous owner well.
The car being totaled the way was to me was a huge disappointment.
The car was nicely taken care of. Ill ask the previous owner if he is willing to talk to you about it if you want.

Thanks Colin. I appreciate that. I found Nutschell on Instagram. His photos are
fantastic. I'd like to purchase a book of his work with the car!

Hi all.

Now I need to replace the HandBrake contact switch.
I ordered one from Pelican.

Can anyone tell me where it goes? And send me a picture?
I assume it screws into the body below the brake lever,
but the specifics elude me.

Thanks!!!

Hi All!
Should I seal the new fuel tank I am installing?

Does anyone recommend a specific sealer? I see POR, Eastwood, KBS
and Red-Kote.

Thanks for your advice.

Quick update.

Some more safety check items satisfied:

I got the handbrake switch, buzzer relay reinstalled. This dash light now works.

I reinstalled the oil pressure switch for its idiot dash light.

Repaired the defroster lever box. Broken lead board. Bent/rusty cables.
Replace bowden cables.

Remove Fuel Tank. Rusty. Have a new tank. Only source gas line attached.
Return fuel line unattached (Carbs). Attached B-Quiet pads to new tank.
Should I seal the new fuel tank???

Remove fresh air box. 914rubber refresh kit. Add grille.

Remove defroster diverters. Clean. Replace bowden cables.

Remove wiper motor. High speed doesn't work. But motor is fine.
Must be back at the steering column switch? 914rubber refresh.

Replace angled grommets on brake lines under fuel tank.

Driver's door latch's return spring broke. Replaced it.

More to come ...

The answer is no. No need to seal a new tank, and there have been multiple reports of the sealant used on old tanks flaking off and gumming up the fuel system. A new tank, like you have, is the way to go. It does require cleaning to get any contaminants/coatings off before you put it in service, but that is fairly straight forward. I used POR15 cleaner/degreaser for my tank. Just make sure you dry it out well after you rinse it out. I used my wife's hair dryer to do that. Please don't tell her. Only do this right before you put it into service so that you don't get any flash rust on the inside of the tank.

Nice progress on your car! I look forward to seeing it at a Red Barn gathering in the future.

Uh-oh.
You may regret the sound deadening in the fuel compartment if you intend to put the air box back into the front to work the HVAC controls. It may not fit with the added width of the sound barrier.

Getting the air box back into its nook is a CHALLENGE with just paint. It may not fit now.

I did not have any big headaches when I removed and replaced my car's fresh air box. If you remove the bolts from the support legs which connect the cowl area to the unibody underneath the cowl area, you can pull up on the cowl area when installing the fresh air box, and the fresh air box will slide in easily. My 914 is an early 1970 model year. Of course, the gas tank has to out of the car too.

Thanks Zach.
I just put BQ patches here and there. I hope in good spots!
