I did not have any big headaches when I removed and replaced my car's fresh air box. If you remove the bolts from the support legs which connect the cowl area to the unibody underneath the cowl area, you can pull up on the cowl area when installing the fresh air box, and the fresh air box will slide in easily. My 914 is an early 1970 model year. Of course, the gas tank has to out of the car too.

I have a '73.
I am upgrading to a late model 914Rubber gasket which is much fatter than the early model gasket I removed. I am worried it will be a tough replacement.

Thanks for the input! I'll update with my progress.

I had to do something similar for registering a car with the SB100 smog exemption in Ca a couple years ago. The Brake and Lamp inspection was the hardest part but they focused on the main items, such as my headlights needed to be projecting at the right height and I had to add marker lights on the corners of my car. For me the CHP part was super easy and I didn't even have wipers, but results may vary.

Thanks Justin.

The CHP inspection is about VINs and theft. In the clear.

Safety Inspection? Almost ready.

The car is pulled apart. Needs a few days to reassemble. Working
through my first pass of the car, I'm trying to do as much as possible.
Avoiding pulling the air-box, fuel tank, dash or whatever multiple times.
(At least it's easer the second time.)

I am clumsy and neurotic. This hobby is perfect for me.
Cleaning-up, touching-up, B-Quieting-up, labeling, restoring original
hardware, replacing rubber and breaking things.
This adds a couple more months to complete.

I'm confident the sweet sweet results will warrant my madness.

The engine/trans work well. No work necessary. But I'll
probably replace the Webers with restored EFI in the future.

Closed up the driver's door today. It's been torn apart for a long time.
The return spring for its door latch broke around new year.
VW has the replacement spring. (PN 111837061C)
Cleaned, painted and lubricated inside the door. Applied 4-1/2 sq-ft B-QuietUltimate to the door and door panel.

Upgraded to chrome window cranks and interior door release rosettes.

Mine is a late '73, so, the OEM 113837581D 914 chrome cranks would not fit.
I found some from "356 Devotion" on eBay that do.

914rubber tells me their cranks fit too.

Hi all,

I'm shrinking tubing onto the free ends of my harness.

Should I twist the wires to suppress noise? I shrunk the wiper branch before thinking
of this.

I am twisting the fan branch and fuel gauge branch now that I have this in mind.

Should I redo and twist the wiper branch?

Any radio guys, EEs or other smarties
advice appreciated.

Thanks!
Dave
