I was a software engineer for over 30 years, now retired. Perhaps I can help in some way. In any case, I'm willing to contribute money to keep things going / update / replace / enhance as necessary. This site is too important to lose.

Hopefully a plan comes together soon. Happy to help, if my IT skillset allows, if/when extra hands are needed.

My IT skills are too old & rusty to even mention let alone be considered
but I cant express enough the value derived in camaraderie, entertainment & technical knowledge that World has provided these past DECADES (sheesh!)
Andy I owe you $'s already and will add to that,
but be mindful not everyone uses Paypal
& not knowing how this enterprise is setup, that pot may also have tax ramifications

I think it's really important to keep all the old content searchable and active if it's at all reasonably possible.

Turbobricks recently switched servers and managed to keep all their old content. Maybe look into Xenforo? That seemed to work well for them. The forum is now switched over and frankly working better than before.

QUOTE
I will need to purchase said board software which unless something changes will be the latest version of Xenforo. I would imagine most of you already use a forum on xenforo as it is currently the leading forum software on the market.

A thread similar to this one, about them making the switch:

Just wanted to (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_bump.gif) this back up to the top so perhaps we can get the forum migrated to some platform that's a little more future-proof than where it is now. I'm not an IT guy, but the way I see things, we need three efforts:

1. A small cadre of very smart IT people who can work with @SirAndy to identify a destination and a migration path to get there.

2. A larger group of technically-capable members who would volunteer time and expertise with the transition, especially any intensive manual efforts that might be required.

3. A fundraising effort to provide the resources for both the new platform and the migration process.

Does that seem about right?

Sorry if I'm (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dead horse.gif) here but I suspect it will be easier to plan and execute a move while the current platform is relatively stable rather than after more things break.

We are working on it but it's a bit slow since we all have day jobs.

We're currently testing other forum software solutions.
