So long as the trunk is empty, lay it in the rear trunk. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

205 will fit in the rear trunk. 225 will not.
(The factory even provided a bolt hole to mount it.) Or this also works. ![]() |

Clay already said it, but I'll say it again anyway.
None of the space saver tires are road worthy at this point. I don't know of anyone who is reproducing them. If you have it in your car for Concourse - fine. But if you have it in the car with the intent of using it if you ever get a flat, you would be better off with a can of Fix-a-flat or dealing with a full size spare. If you can even get it to inflate, you are still going to be driving on an ancient tire that has no business on the road. Zach |

Take your pick:
Boxster Spare Tire on Ebay You can even get the cloth cover, the foam insert that holds the jack and handle, and the took kit with the installation stud for the wheel. |

I need to replace my spare. The collapsible spare looks to be from the awd 996 and I see it running for $350 @roundtwo did you find it for $100? I have a full height from my 996 I will see how it fits on the gas tank vertical. I do like the idea of ditching the pump. |

@cairo94507
@steve @burton73 @clayperrine Thanks for all the great data points and perspectives. Way to go Cairo for all the extensive measurements. Much appreciated. 1. GT style oil cooler valance prevents the spare from lying flat in the front trunk. I’ll have some updates on that project in a different thread. 2. Rear trunk cargo space much covetted . I like to have a clean storage area in the car. 3. Good point, what the heck do I do with the big wheel tire that comes off if I get a flat? I guess clean out all the stuff out of the rear trunk and pile stuff in the passenger seat. Let’s hear it for AAA extended towing. ! I do wonder about the logic of carrying around a spare and intending not to use it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smoke.gif) 4. Smallest most reliable spare makes the most sense for the longer drives to remote areas for self rescue. I already have the solid Fuchs fifth wheel with good tread - full size spare. And maybe I just throw that in the rear trunk when storage space is not an issue. Could jettison the passenger if needed. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif) |

The smallest rim I could find is the 17 inch. I think the back step will work with the right wheel spacer. |

Referring to "where do you put a wide, flat tire after putting on the spare?"
I put it in the back trunk. No, the lid won't close. But we are trying to get to the nearest place to get it fixed, not drive cross country. Keep a bungee cord or ratchet strap with the spare so you can tie down the rear trunk lid. And I will say this... at least we aren't in a 911. Asking your toolwench to sit in the back seat because your flat tire only fits in the passenger seat is bad form. |

I've inflated 3 of these old Porsche space saver tires and none of them cracked. Lack of exposure to UV rays (if stored properly like in the car) made them last longer. I think they would get you off the highway to a gas station in a pinch at 45 mph.
There are a few options for refurbished (SMC) or new 928 emergency wheel which I think is a 16" but can't find details. Here's one for $430 ![]() I should also mention Veredstein still makes them as of a few years ago. But they are typically only avail from a Euro dealer. Finding someone to mount them is also a challenge. It's possible, but usually a hassle. |

Why do you have a 356 fuel tank in your 914?????? Hi Clay, 30 years ago when some of the work on my old 74 914 I was planing on a fuel cell and do more track time. Six years ago when the 914 came out of a 29 year nap the fuel cell.....full racing was out. So, you can see the extended cage to the suspension points and the forward placement of a gas tank was needed....356. Best, Mark |

Ideally, I’d like a spare that can hold 7 gallons of fuel too. If I flatted out, I could empty it fill it , with air and be on my way!
I think the odds of running out of fuel are a lot higher than flatting out. No room for both with the oil shroud. Pic of my engine going in with my strong youthful sidekick |
