Hi all. I’m shipping my case to LN Engineering and wondered what you all think should be the proper way. Here’s my crate- I was thinking of adding an additional board as a base, then mounting the halves directly to the base via the bell housing flange, bolts, washers, etc. From here, I can add foam if needed but I think it could ship as is- the box is a well engineered tank.
What do you think? Should I connect the halves? Would strapping it down be better? Is all of this overkill? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) Any advice welcome, thanks in advance- total noob here. FYI- I still have hopes for removing that pesky stud, but LN said they could deal with it and there’s room in the crate. ![]() ![]() |

Very nice box!! I've always used a reinforced / HD cardboard box with foam padding all-around to protect everything. That looks like overkill and very expensive to ship. Just my opinion.

I send the case in a 27 gallon yellow and black plastic crate. I line the crate with cardboard and wrap the case in a moving blanket. Zip tie the lid shut and put 2 shipping labels on the crate.
The big advantage is the shipping is reasonable and can go out from your favorite shipper. A pallet usually means freight. Not the end of the world but more work. But to your question, yes, connect the case to protect the sealing surfaces. |

That looks like overkill and very expensive to ship. Just my opinion. I agree… buuuut - It would be super clean and easy for everyone involved no? surprisingly, the box is lightweight 46lbs/21kg- would do freight. RE price- I’m looking to save as much as possible (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) have you seen the recent price for a 2563 build with DTM cooling. Guide me - I’ll use the crate elsewhere. Basically the goal is to keep it from clanking around right? I can see many ways- just took it off the rails here. It’s what is do and may still do lol! |

I would either put a couple of bolts to hold the case halves together or at least zip tie both halves together to avoid the sealing surfaces of the case halves from getting nicked or scratched during shipping. I agree with the suggestion to use a plastic storage container for shipping the case instead of a heavy wooden box.

My way isn’t the only way but with sales and customer cases to the machine shop, I’ve probably shipped about 30+ cases. The shipping companies can damage anything and insurance doesn’t always cover it. They will often say the product wasn’t packed securely- even when packed by fedex’s own shipping dept. Cardboard will help cushion the blow if it’s dropped. It’s worse in the winter because the plastic is brittle. So do what you think best. 2 labels because I lost a trans when the seller only put one label on the box. I even drop a third label in the crate with the hope that I’ll never loose another one.

If they’re building up the motor. It’ll come back in a much bigger one. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |
