I use gask-a-cinch on cover side and light coat of grease on the head side.
It allows the cover to move around a little and does not stick to the head next valve adjustment.

Thanks for all the advice.

I will look what product is available in local stores and will try to tackle this during the weekend.

Will update with results.

Repair done using Permatex Aviation sealer #3 and grease on the head side. Will let that sit for the night and until I get some more gear oil to complete filling the trans.

Should be able to test tomorrow.

Finally was able to find a somewhat decent weather window to take the car out for another test drive to make sure that everything was fine following the ''adjustment'' on the valve cover gasket.

Took the car out for a 15 minutes drive and all seems to be fine. No more oil leaking from the valve cover. So I now consider the car ready for the season.

Thanks all for the help!

Cinch-A-Gasket on the valve cover side of the CORK gasket. The valve covers should be squeaky clean. The VW symbol stamped/cast in? on the covers should be upside down.
