I guess file this under general garage skill but Porsche-related.
67 911 and I canNOT get this split nut off to remove/rekey the glovebox lock.

Pic stolen from the internet as it best shows the nut in question.

I just can't find anything that will get enough "bite"

Asking here rather than other 911-centric boards since we're a bit more "hands-on"...

Thanks!
Brian

The first tool I would grab is an adjustable pin spanner

They make what is called a locknut socket. There are many different sizes and depths. The linked one is probably not the right one for your application, just an example.

I did a basic 3D design and printed it to get the one off our 914-6 glove box. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smash.gif)

I took a nickel & notched it out to the desired shape, this just grabs 2 not 4 lugs however.

Ooooh.
This may be the key. I now see what you see in that pic - but I'll have to see if that's reality for my particular situation. Haven't noticed a snap ring but I'll check. Good one.

Otherwise - great suggestions on new tools to buy!!

That looks like an antenna nut (the 4 slotted nut yes?). Try purchased an antenna nut removal socket or wrench.

The snap ring does not facilitate removing the nut and lock tab. It just holds the lock cylinder in place. I've removed literally hundreds of them with just a straight screwdriver.

Long nosed pliers usual will fit into the opposite slots to remove or install. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif)
