I'm sure by saying this i may be exictued by the 914 illuminatti, but i really can't get into GT Flares.... they stick to damn far out and ruin the original lines of the car. Just my opinion... sue me! So In the middle of my restoration of my 70 I realized that the rear wheels that I have choosen, with their wide offset do not fit under the quarter panels. What to do, what to do? Flare the damn things!
But like I said above i hate GT flares.... especially if i'm just gonna put them in the back.... UGLY AS HELL! The answer? NATURAL FLARES! Now these aren't all that hard to do... you just need to measure measure measure!!! Now On this car I only flared 1 1/4 inches at the widest to make the quarters clear the wheels, while still looking like the tires are barely stuffed in the wheelhouse. Illusions are f*&%ing awesome! So later today i will start posting what one quarter looks like already flared... and then a step by step process of how to flare the opposite side. CHECK BACK LATER!!! NaturallyFlared914 aka. Matt |

I couldn't agree with you more. I am creating a street 914 hot rod, but I refuse to do the obvious to get bigger tires on the rear, which is the only place I need them. Fronts work fine. I am very anxious to see what you are up to.

Feed your 914 more and maybe the butt will get bigger (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif) Or have SC flares welded onto your car like mine (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wub.gif) Attached image(s) |

Matt,
It will be interesting if you have a new method but there are many types of flares that have already been done (do a search). John Kelley has a DVD to show you how to hand form the original fender. Others have sectioned and welded in filler pieces. My wide rear flares were made from new sheetmetal that was rolled with an English wheel and hammer formed by John Kelley. Welcome to the 914club where almost everything has been done or is in progress... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif) |

Alright alright alright! Here's the pics.... sorry of their from a bad angel.
First off I only flared the Quarter 1 1/4 inch at the top and brought the lip of the wheel well out about 3/4 of a inch or so... so it's very slight, but makes a big difference. ENJOY! This first one is from the ass end looking foward to see the contrast from the flared to the non-flared side! (IMG:http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y109/MaverickMP/flared%20914/IMG_0417.jpg) This is from the front looking back.... you can see the molded 916 front bumper.... better shot comming! (IMG:http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y109/MaverickMP/flared%20914/IMG_0413.jpg) Side profile shot.... (IMG:http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y109/MaverickMP/flared%20914/IMG_0414.jpg) the flared quarter from the back (IMG:http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y109/MaverickMP/flared%20914/IMG_0409.jpg) So like I said.... i will start posting a step by step of how to do this starting tonight (hopeully) and continuing untill done. Hope u guys like.... feel free to post likes/dislikes or tips on this subject. Peace out! I like the natural bulge too. A few others here have done this. Andyrew comes to mind. And of course John Kelly... the guru.

You have my attention. Welcome, in a big way. GT flares are expensive and I don't like/want them on my car. KT |
