I have been using K&N 2004 oil filters on my 914. I have an external oil cooler with a Mocal sandwich adapter between the oil filter support and the oil filter. I purchased a Mahle OC28 oil filter. When I tried to install the filter, it was tight against the engine bar. The Mocal filter measured 96mm and the K&N measured 93mm. $10 mistake. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/WTF.gif)

I’m confused. You installed an oil cooler sandwich adapter that pushes the filter down toward the engine bar and now you’re mad at the filter for a 3mm (1/8”) variance in filter OD?

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) why not just keep using K&N if that fits?

I had to dump the Mahle filter and keep using K&N filters, anyone can figure that out! I'm not mad, just didn't realize all filters are not the same and the tolerance would that close! Why do you need pictures? It didn't fit!

Easy - (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Was just being a dumb (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bootyshake.gif) and having some fun (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif)

Was actually a little more curious if you were trying different filters as potentially being related to whatever oil pressure drama you have going on.

Once upon a time I had oil pressure problems with Fram filters on my Miata. Too much restriction and reduced oil pressure and reduced oil flow. Not a fan of Fram.

That's what I was trying to compare oil filters vs oil pressure. I doubt if any other filter will flow more than a K&N.

So what’s going on with your pressure?

If I recall you originally had some hot pressure problems with a loose fitting T1 pump - maybe years ago? Thought you got a different T1 pump with a better fit that resolved it (mostly?).

Getting worse?

I'm getting 40 lbs. with oil temp around 200° at 3400 rpm. Cold oil pressure at start up (70°) is 80 lbs.

I did some searching as far as comparing flow rates of oil filters. The K&N had the higher flow tate by a few pounds but a little less efficient, 85% vs 90-99%. Being our engines are sealed and running a Wix air filter I'll give up a little less efficiency for a higher oil pressure.

Yes ,but what's your hot idle pressure ? often more important IMO.
OC 47 Mahle will work ,76mm diameter but longer so capacity is the same ,always used German parts on a German engine but that's just me.
Cheers.

Hot oil pressure at idle is 10 lbs.
