I just built a 2056 with external oil filter/cooler/fan combo. I broke the engine in for 22 mins at 2200 rpm’s and everything sounded great and stayed at 185-195 degrees. After turning it off and looking underneath the car it had a small leak coming from the oil pump. I took it apart today and found the problem which is a small deflection in the metal on the case where someone previously used a screwdriver to pry it out. Will fix that tomorrow. My question is, while I have it out, should I put in a 30 Schadex that I have in hand, or put the 26 back in that I used during the build?
The 26 was giving me about 10psi at idle hot, and 60psi during throttle. At 2200rpms during the break in, it was staying about 40lbs when hot. I think that is acceptable, but if there is a good consensus that I should pop in the 30 High volume pump while I have it all apart, I will do that. Also I used the steel cover plate when I built the engine, because I thought it would be more durable with the steel gears riding against it. But, I was reading a few posts saying the cover plate with the ribs is more rigid and would seal the pump better. I have both, which one is better?? Attached thumbnail(s) ![]() ![]() |
