Well this answers the question - "is the V710 better than the RA-1 or Victoreen V700".
V710 on the right. Both stacks are 205-50/15. Ken Attached thumbnail(s) |

Wow!!!!!
Same size tire on same size wheels. Makes you take a pause. No wonder they are working so well. They must be almost the size of a 225. Ken, Have you test fitted them to see if you have any clearance problems? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/sawzall-smiley.gif) |

Hope to get them mounted Thursday.
I think they will fit, but will have to remove the 1/2 spacers, but with the tire this wide who needs the spacers. Ken |

Ken,
I can't see how those can be the same size...but I see the manufacturer markings on the 710s. Now I know why every car I see with them on it the tires look huge. You will definitely have a tire advantage on me next season. Have to make it up with driving I guess (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif) I like your oil cooler setup. I am thinking about doing a similar set up with high density foam as a ducting to the engine grill. Planning on using a Carrera fan with toggle switch for cool air at lower speeds and cool down after a run session. I also like the way you mounted the computer and the ignition electronics. By the way Ken (of Sportech lore) bought a 914-6 this week. So he will be back on the track next season as well. It will be nice to see a few more 914s out there. Years ago when I had my last 914s there were around 15-20 at every TT and AX. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/boldblue.gif) |

Hoosiers are the same in the "stack" test. Ken, Youre going to gain a second with these tires easily. Those RA1's are ices skates compared to the Hoosiers or 710's.

Yup, Biggy fatties are better.
I wonder what the traction would be like comparing 225 Kumho V700 or Toyo RA-1 with the 205 Hoosier or 710. aside from construction of tread blocks and higher tread wear. Probably still not as good. |

The 710's are definately wider, but for the "stack" test to be accurate I have found that the tires must either ALL be dismounted or perferably all be mounted on the same size wheel. The wheel really effects the shape of the sidewall and since you have all the tires stacked on their sidewalls it has a strong effect on the outcome of the "stack" test. If you compare a pair of tires during the mount/dismount process I think you'll find the difference is not quite as big as this picture would suggest. There is no question the 710's will be quite a bit faster for autocross.

Had 1 tire mounted to check fit. Will fit with stock "rolled" fenders. 1/2" spacer-maybe, so will run with 1/4"spacer.
Will post Pictures of stacks with both tires mounted as soon as I get them from the shop. Dan - good about Ken, did he get the car from the chap near Chico?? Set-up for Bp any you too can spend the BIG bucks on tires. Ken |

A nice illustration of how untrustworthy tire sizes are. I've seen plenty of cases where tires of nominally the same width are very different in actual width. I've even seen cases where a 195 from company A was NARROWER than a 185 from company B. This is why it's impossible to reliably answer the question: "what size tires will fit under my stock fenders?" as it completely depends on which tires are being discussed, not just which sizes (as well as wheel offset and your exact fenders, as "stock" fenders come in varying widths, too).

Well I guess that is a good point. the wider wheels like my Diamond units make a 205/50-15 is nearly square. 8.4 inches of tread contacts the road.

Ken,
Yes he bought the 6 from Rich Bradshaw (chico) Besides the car he gets a2.2E a 2.7S, 901 and 915 plus a bunch of other spares... That 2.2E might find its way into my car in the future. He is picking up the car this weekend. Those tires look great. You will definitely be up on me on the tire front. I still plan on Vracers or RA1s. Getting tires will be the last acquisition. Paint, suspension comes first. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) Yes, I am setting my car up for BP. |

OK - this looks more like it. V710s on 6"rims on right, RA-1 on 6" rims on left.
Still looks like am impovment in footprint. V710 would love a 7"rim. Ken |

Looks like maybe .25 to .33 inch per tire wider. About a 215 size instead of 205.
Anything is an improvement. You are right a 7" rim would be great. I know of a way to get a 7 inch rim under your fenders with those tires. Ask me about it at TH. Under our current rules you would have to move to BR. But under points it would add 50 points...would that move you up into another class? Something to think about if we go to points for next season. What do you personally think about the points vs. classification system, Ken? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/ar15.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/blink.gif) Picked up my 180# rear springs from Jeff Reitmeir. They were hidden away on a shelf in his shop (Reitmeirs Werkstatt) He said there were probably at least 12 years old. Still in original Weltmeister box with each spring wrapped in plastic with installation instructions. Great find for $50 brand new. Getting 23mm front torsion bars from Gary Dorighi Now all I need are my shocks and front sway bar. Mark at Sportech says he has a 19 MM H&R front adjustable bar so I may be getting that instead of the Welt. bar. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smilie_pokal.gif) |

The point system - I voting NO - do not think it works right yet. Puts non-competive cars in the group, do vnot think it solves anything.
You may need an adjustable rear sway bar to help balance things out. Be interested to see how the 23mm front torsion bars work out. Ken |

I'm not Ken, nor do I play him on TV, but just for a data point.
I'm running 21mm T bars, a 22 mm front AR bar set full soft, & 300 lb rear springs. The car still pushes in the tight stuff....but is loose everywhere else. I still pick up the inside rear tire occasionally while exiting tight corners.....I need an LSD in the worst way.....and some more driving talent. |

Ken is running:
22mm Torsion Bars 22mm Front Sway 175# Linear Rear Springs Welt. Adjustable Rear Sway Bar LSD Tranny From want I can find out - use just enough spings to keep from "bottoming out", then use sway bars to adjust the amount of Over/Understeer you want. This is a basic setup then tweek things like tires, pressure, alignment, you an never-ending seirs of adjustments. I tried 275# & 225# rear spings but really like the 175s. Thcar "glides over berms without upseting anything. JP - the LSD will increase the Understeer. I found even a stock rear sway-bar kept the back wheels bown. The LSD will also really help you get out of trouble - sideways recovery, two-off recovery, etc. Ken |
