got talked into car and coffee at main porsche dealer workshops in north antarctica this morning. not my normal cup of tea. had a nice 15 kim drive in the pre dawn light with roof off heater on. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) went to park in customer carpark to hide from expected haters of the vo po. workshop lads manning the door dragged me and the 14 inside (i was reluctant). parked me in pride of place.
spanner men loved the car.

lot of interest in the car. still a rare sight down here. esp one that has not been meddled with. all morning guys coming up - "are you the guy with the nine one four".

got a good coffee and passable donut for waking up at an uncivilsed hour.

got attracted to this lovely 912. love em.

found a modern porsche i'd almost want. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Way to represent!

But even granted you all have winter now down under, what's with the polar parkas and puffy coats?

The car looks great. Sounds like a fun time. It’s winter for you isn’t it, gets pretty cold at the bottom of the world.

Awesome Wonki!
I’ve heard stories about our little cars being dismissed and talked down to that made me wary about attending PCA events with my 914.

This has not been the case! I’ve been welcomed and the car has always “drawn a crowd”. Possibly because of the patina, or it was the single 914 at the event.
@Wonkipop glad you attended and enjoyed yourself!

like yours the old jaffa has plenty of patina art. lots of little dings and dents. each one tells a story. there is a nice dent just near the drivers door handle caused by a mop handle my ex wife "accidently" thrust sideways at high velocity into the metal. that particular dent got a few smiles from guys who have experienced a full life with all it offers.

but........it was the only car there (aside from newer water cooled era) with its factory paint. seemed to cause a bit of head shaking and disbelief. a couple of them just said bullsh$t soi got my party trick going of showing them the dealer prep stickers in under the trunk lids that are still there. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

spanner men were interested in the L jet system. part no. on the AFM got a few wide eyed stares. guy with a beautiful restored black 928 was into the L jet too.

almost nothing is known about the cars down here.

------

@76-914 hell did freeze over. the gates are normally just south of here in tasmania.

----------

there were a couple of super interesting cars there. i was too mesmerized by them to take photos. one in particular- a rhd carrera gt 356 with a 4 cam. they had it up on a hoist. was being worked on. fascinating. never seen one in the flesh before. you could probably count the number of 4 cam engines that were ever down here on one hand.

about 3 or 4 swb 911s. over-restored of course. they were good but never than good when new. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) practically undriveable given their condition and value i guess.

just 1 944. 1 928. zero 924s. i am waiting for someone to turn up with a humble 924 that is al original. i wonder if any still exist down here.

my mate took his battered speedster. people love it. no garage queen that one. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Above freezing? Around here the kids are still in shorts and maybe a fleece top. Of course us old-timers might need a blanket. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

no worries. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
don't forget the inverse applies.
down here 45 C (113F) is considered mildly warm and time to take your coat off and crack a cold beer. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

the only time i have felt vaguely uncomfortable was on black saturday about 20 years ago. thermo hit 52 C inside my office. whole state was on fire and burning down.
even a cold beer did diddly squat. power was out. air con not an option.

in this neck of the woods the temp variation summer to winter is right out at the max min on the old climate rev counter. rest of aus has way less variation.
perth is apparently the ideal climate for civilisation. but even so it hasn't managed to be civilised yet. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
between sydney and brisbane you can walk around in your underwear with an umbrella for 12 months of the year. nothing happens. every day is the same. people resort to killing themselves due to boredom. koalas crawl down from their perches and throw themselves in front of cars to get some excitement. the leaves cant even be bothered falling off the trees. the only happy creatures are the sharks hanging around the surf breaks.

You got us! When the temps here go above 90° F (32° C) us mountain folks just pass out. I did survive a week recently in southern Arizona, and "enjoyed" some days above 110--43 to you. Definitely not 914 weather.

a girl i know sent me this link.
tons of camera kooks film these things these days i guess.

highlight is my mates battered "blue" speedster. its an ace car. goes like hell. held together with sticky tape. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

some wobbly geriatric also appears randomly.
observant will notice prop i left on my passenger seat to piss off the anti vo po crew if they tried to take photos.
this filmic guy didn't care or didn't notice. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (couldn't help myself. got a long memory).

some interesting cars there besides 914 and speedster.

Wonk. Really nice car!! Righteous patina and condition.

Your mates speedster is the bomb. Crackly on the outside, tidy under the bonnet
