But I don't know how slow it will be...
Unfortunately, in this situation, I don't have the knowledge Andy does on the web configuration. So you will have to suffer with it being slow until he can look at it. @SirAndy |

What firewall do we have in front of this site? Most (modern fw’s) should have DDoS capabilities.

What firewall do we have in front of this site? Most (modern fw’s) should have DDoS capabilities. We don't have a dedicated firewall. It's shared with other hosted servers in the cluster and we have no control over or access to it. We only have a software firewall on the server, but that doesn't help against a distributed DDoS attacks with 100k simultaneous connections using rotating spoofed IPs. I just want to understand why someone is targeting such an oddly specific car forum that impacts maybe 200 people on a daily basis

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) Dedicated firewall wouldn't help much. DDoS protection looks at the number of connections coming from a specific address or block of addresses (or parts of the world..). 100k connections coming from what appears to be 100k different addresses; there isn't a way to determine what is valid (you trying to view the Garage) and who is ringing the doorbell and running away. |

Thanks ,for the basic explanation ,what are they hoping to gain by hacking ...personal details ,Paypal details ,have no ideas so just asking ?? cheers. @porschetub Nobody is hacking anything. DDoS stands for "Distributed Denial of Service". The only goal is to flood a website with so much traffic that nobody else can use it, hence the denial of service part. It's usually used for ransom/extortion. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) |
