The 914-6 we got is missing the air cleaner.
I have after market Individual air cleaners.
Anyone have pictures of how they hooked up the breather lines to non stock air cleaners?

Also looking for an original carb type air cleaner.

I would suggest not. The engine breather should connect right to the oil tank and the vent on the filler neck should vent to a puke tank in my opinion

When you buy a set of K&N watershield air cleaners for a 911/914-6, you get a plastic breather fitting that is used to hook the tank vent to the air cleaners. It should be mounted high up above the oil tank level. The big line connects to the filler neck, and the two small lines go to the air cleaner.

You can see the breather fitting in the picture below. It is at the left side.

There are also 90 degree fittings that go into the holes in the watershield air cleaners to hook to the breather fitting. That way everything is routed to the air cleaners so it can be pulled in for some semblance of emissions management.


I don't like the way they don't terminate inside the filter housing. Dirt and crap can get in the hoses the way they are run.


Lots of people just put a small K&N filter element on the filler neck vent. But it can result in oil on the engine during hard driving.

You could buy an aftermarket puke tank and use it.

My only issue with that setup is do we really want any oil puking down the carbs to be burned?

I have always disliked the hoses in the air intake, seems wrong.

Exposing the area around the air filters to crankcase vapors creates a mess.
Porsche race cars used a plastic container to catch and condense the vapors.
The picture shows my version.
The neck of the bottle is a push fit into the factory vent hose.
The bottle is slit along the top surface to allow venting.
No holes or modification necessary.
The bottle should be removed and cleaned regularily
Simple remedy untill you find OE

I had a stock plastic air cleaner but it was distorted due to backfire on left side and needed repair to use so I purchased a set of the old alloy K&N assembles ,ran them for a short time but the filtration was rubbish on my dusty entrance road to my rural property ,took them off for cleaning and the dust was showing on the inside them !!!.
Purchased set of Outwears filters and they worked great but end of the day the K&Ns were too loud in a 914 ,repaired the stock air cleaner and sold the off to a 911 guy and he was happy .
Down side for Bruce is to find a decent stock replacement ,not hard to find but prices are mental these days but sure he will find one .
Basically the intake noise will wear you down after a fair amount of time and I also found it hard to set a breather system with them and I had no rainhats.

Otherwise if you overfill the oil tank you will have a nice smoke storm when you start the motor. My neighbors were not too happy.

Bruce, I have a par of filter elements old but new in box if you need them and I can take detailed pictures of my 3.0 Eng. and lines going to everything if it can help you guys. I believe the pictures from the PMO 46 to now EFI would look the same. The only thing is I have front oil cooling so some of that is different. Anything I can do to help you, I am on it
