Very impressive for a rattle can job!

Could similar results be had for a clearcoat only rattle can respray?

Plastidip is an affordable option as well. I dipped mine and it held up well for the last 4 years. The best part is I can peel it off and change colors in a weekend.

Looks great! When I was watching some YouTube videos on DIY auto paint jobs, at the end the guy said, remember…it’s just paint. I appreciate you posting this, maybe it will re-motivate me. On the parts of my car that I have already painted, I was especially impressed with the quality of the newer rattle can clear coats.

I think if you started with some reasonable paint underneath, and no body work of course, absolutely. I didn't paint the trunk lid on mine because it really looked fine. All I did was buff that with cutting compound and then polish, but if it had bad imperfections I think I would 600 grit it down to the paint and respray with clear coat. I just got a box of cheapo Rust-Oleum clear coat on Amazon 6 bottles for 50 dollars. I still have one left. I would say the expensive stuff means much less work as far as post spray work. The cheap stuff required 1000/1500/2000/cutting compound and polish. I didn't even polish the door I did with the expensive clear coat spray from AutoZone.

I would not never ecommend painting a car with Plasti-Dip paints. I painted some wheel centers with Plasti-Dip paint about three (3) years ago. When I recently tried to peel it off, the Plasti-Dip would not come off. I had to first use old gasoline to soften the Plasti-Dip, and then scrap it off with a plastic scrapper so I wouldn't scratch and score the metal underneath. I will never paint anything with Plasti-Dip paint again if I even had the slightest thought of removing that type of paint in the future.

It might not have been applied with enough coats. Anytime I’ve had to peel it off I never had a problem but that’s only been with wheels….The body might be next which is two base and two top coats. I’ll report back when that happens.

The paint came out decent for the cost and effort. Still like the Chalon body in the two-tone paint like the Paint scheme on the first ones in the 70s
