base car trim treatment. 72 was much the same as 70 and 71.
70. base (app group got chrome bumpers with chrome horn grills, vinyl sail panel with chrome trim. assume you could also option up a base with chrome bumpers separately if you wanted to?). ![]() ![]() 71 base. as per 70 - and car under discussion. 72 base. almost as per 70/71 but they but might have gone to black horn grills. seen a few seemingly original base 72s for sale. with black horn grills. ![]() ![]() ![]() 73 base. goes to black trim on sail panels no vinyl. black bumpers with chrome horn grills. example shown originally had black bumpers. owner a member here replaced original bumpers with better condition non original chrome bumpers prior to a sale. negative side stripes not original either, neg did not arrive until early 1974 calendar year. app group went to vinyl, chrome trim sail panels. chrome bumpers. cars shown are 1.7s but 2.0s had the same combo externally depending on whether base or app group. ![]() ![]() 74 base european. as per 73. black sail panel trim, no vinyl. black bumpers w chrome grilles. example shown held in porsche museum. ![]() 74 base USA. no vinyl delete on sail planes standard. all cars whether 1.8 base/app or 2.0 base/app had vinyl sail panels + chrome trim except LE for USA. bumpers black on base 1.8 or 2.0 went to chrome on app group whether 1.8 or 2.0 - with exception of LE. ![]() 75 as per 74. base european differs from base USA. euro - no vinyl. black trim. USA vinyl + chrome trim. black rubber collision bumper update all markets. ![]() ![]() my favourite is the base 74 euro these days. no chrome pretty much. all black trim. minimalist look. and..........star steelies. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) + a great little motor. high compression twin carb 1.8. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) would love to have one to sit beside the L jet in the garage. but........ (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) virtually unobtainable. and one last little detail. 70 and 71 seemed to get gold letters on the engine grille. USA only. and 73 on got chrome. can't quite work out what was going on with letters in 72. could be either way. but think they were gold. |
