I found this humorous.
In the back of the 2nd and third editions of 356 tech specification booklets.

It’s sort of amazing when you stop and think about how difficult it used to be to get reliable information on our cars.

Factory manual was absurdly expensive.

D-jet technical information as almost non-existent unless you had access to dealer materials.

The 914 newsletter thing (can’t remember the formal name) was about the only reliable source of 914 information . . . And even then that was prone to errors and mythology.

Any mechanical mentors I had only questioned my sanity & manliness for playing with those “little cars and little engines” instead of a manly V8 in some muscle car with an archaic suspension and drum brakes all the way around. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

Accurate info about new cars is still handled the same way as it was done “back in the day”. The car makers and dealerships are always keeping the repair info confidential and proprietary in order to protect their monopoly on performing repairs and service functions. On new cars it costs thousands of dollars to get the latest computer info and programs to repair and update new cars . Anyone ever have to buy and get a replacement car key lately? It’s hundreds of dollars to do so.

guff about excellence was a lazy historians words about the subject (if his early work describing the 914 is any measure - sorry but........) ---------and not porsches words.

wisely they followed their lawyers advice with the disclaimer.

basically means, "use this information at your own risk....even if we have made a typo --------we feel our arses are covered if it is wrong so don't try and sue us........please. and by the way we change (IMG:style_emoticons/default/stromberg.gif) - keep up if you can. call us on the hotline to the kremlin before you get out the torque wrench" - cause if you don't - well. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) .

"and if you didn't go to our dealer and your using this book.....get farked". (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

The glovebox manual for my 84 mustang has a typo in the sentence "here at Ford, quality is job 1".
