i was watching this.
enjoyed it. CAN AM SERIES and the you know whats of 72/73. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeg8yIoFoHY there is some magic footage right at the end. ![]() i firmly believe the creamsicle is homage to this car. 72 winner. happy to be disagreed with. its just a wild opinion. (and the bumble bee is an aborted and cut short homage to the 73 winner but thats another story). ![]() denny hulme taking a parade lap ride in a you know what. denny died of a heart attack at bathurst (mount panorama). reportedly one of his favourite race events to take part in. best way to go, doing what you love the most? and who is this. in a you know what. but he is in the footage. ![]() |

Who is that standing next to the green 914?
Great video Michael, lots of context and detail. I can hear the 917 engine roar in my mind while seeing the video. Learned how Canepa is pronounced. Its not CanEEEpah that we hear so often. I think there is strong merit to the 914 Creamsicle color scheme as homage to the 917-10 L&M car. The standard available 1974 914 color palette included similar colors to the L&M car making that association logical. Likewise it feels intuitive that the 917-30 Sunoco car colors dark blue and yellow may have been the precedent for the 914 Bumblebee color scheme. There was no similar 914 dark blue, standard black was the closest substitution, and standard Sunflower Yellow was perfect for the yellow accent color. Attached thumbnail(s) ![]() ![]() |

Who is that standing next to the green 914? it might be peter revson. seems to be wearing same racing overalls as denny h. which ought to mean mclaren. peter r was the other m driver. he is wearing particular type of sunglasses which i have seen revson wore in other photos. |

Met John Ficarra at Amelia a few years ago, he was convinced that he had owned my 911 for a time.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) its fantastic that the 914 was the homage car to the most out there race series there ever was. i love the line in this video describing it as "the wild west" of car racing. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) all these things when i watch them make me aware (since i lived my life as some kind of excuse for a designer) of just how the 914 lived its life over the same time span as the 917. 69/70 - 75/76 ish. and that my conviction that design is imbedded in engineering but it was also aesthetic - rational aesthetic. piech was some kind of guy. spawned the 17 and the 14. its correct that the 914 was the homage car for the mighty 917/30. because it had to be about the man. i've got a story about a 914/6 and one of the other two of those 917/30s that was here but never raced. one of the three. and only one of them should ever have the sunoco livery. the one that was here was factory white. i hope it has been returned to that color which it was kept in until at least 1991.
