I had one for years; after the lens broke, I replaced it with a cooking thermometer. It’s about 14” long. Then I put a couple of grooves in the stem for measuring o fill. It’s been in 5 or so years and very accurate.
Also added a VW rubber dipstick seal that slips over the intake tube.
I’ll post a pic later..
