Hello All,

Been a long long time since I was here actively. I spent my late teens and early 20's in the 914 life, did some time as an Admin here, and met some really awesome people through this site. Then life happened, married, kids, jobs, houses etc. My 914 sat for about 15-20 years now... neglected.

As I had built the car when I was a younger guy, looking back, I would have done many things differently. The old black car was 2 resprays over original L64K Zambezi Green, and it has some rust, some poorly done repairs, and was a bit 'rough' for everyday driving...but I was 18 at the time. Nearly 40 year old me wants a 914 in my life, but wants it different.

The body of the old 914 was the issue. To strip it, and paint it original green would be a big task. Then to fix some of the things that were done to it, it made sense to start over. The suspension and drivetrain were all redone and solid (from what I remember).

Got outbid on a 914 I loved on bring a trailer.... Almost bought a members project car here earlier this year, just not quite the right one. The search continued..

So, here we are.

Found a body! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) in Zambezi Green! No suspension or Motor! and 6 miles from my house! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif)

Previous owner had it for 40 years in Southern California. Pretty clean body, except it got stored outside and water got in to the cabin.

Helll Hole is arguably OK, with no through holes yet. Lots of surface rust.
Floor pans need some patching behind the seats.
Rear trunk needs a replacement panel. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/welder.gif)

But, it appears to have great door gaps, no accident damage, and a poor exterior respray in the original color.

Behold, my entry back into 914 projects.

Plan is to get the body cleaned up, repaired, bodyworked and painted, then move over my suspension, drivetrain, other goodies to this green tub.

Thanks for letting me find my way back to this place. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

1975 914 1.8 tub.

As the turd got delivered.

There is no cure for 914 disease. I had three and thought I was done. 25 years later the dormant illness came back.

Hope you keep sharing!

Welcome back. We’d be interested to know what you would do differently now, with the benefit of hindsight. Help keep the youngsters from making similar mistakes they later regret.

Welcome back Aaron!

Looks like a solid 914 to me.

I took about 9 years off owning a 914 myself for similar reasons. No space or time for toys. About 5 years ago I bought a 914. Good ones are getting harder to find and costing more.

Nice find so close!

Welcome back, Aaron! Your posts were ones I remember reading and learning from frequently when I first found this community on that other 914 site many years ago. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sunglasses.gif)

Doesn't look like a turd, just a bit sun baked. Not sure about it living outside the bosses office tho. Will be great to be back in the game after a small break
