I am looking to route my fuel lines one more time (no kinks). While in there I will change my line to AN fittings and braided fuel lines. Does any one have a recommendation for a Pre fuel filter of 100 microns? I have a good post hi pressure filter in place already

Something like this?

If you are updating things:

NO pre pump filter aside from the tank screen.

10 micron high pressure post pump filter

I've been using these but you can get that one you posted with a 10 micron element as well.

Cleanest fuel with the least amount of flow restriction. Late style bosch 2 port pumps will handle this no problem. you want the step up from the 10mm line to the 12mm line as close to the tank as possible. Or just change out the tank fitting itself.

and before anyone bitches about not having a pre pump filter, this is the configuration Volkswagen moved to in the 80s with this pump to address cavitation on the intake side. you want as little restriction as possible between the tank and the pump.

I am assuming this is a fuel injected car? if not than YMMV, not sure what all the various carb pumps can accommodate.

Yes, This is a new Wabro pump and will be 2056 fuel injected too. I will post the spin on 10 micron filter pics under the battery tray/ fire wall to complete the system (ALL PTFE lines)unless i can find room under the tank too( keep out of the heat)?

Thanks for the tips

100 micron is like a large tank screen to catch the big chunks to protect the pump a little. The 10 micron will keep the injectors clean.

6-an =3/8 id PTFE, so should be larger inlet diameter and improvement and reduced bottlenecks kinks?

@rfinegan

For the front trunk fuel line kinks, I just bent up some hard lines and ran them that way. Way, way easier, and 100% kink free.

I purchased one with an integrated cut-off valve to simplify cleaning/changing the filter element. The price just increased another $20 though.

I have a Canton filter up front post-pump; all AN-6 plumbing. Has worked well and is clean-able.

I added spin on fuel filter under the trunk springs on the pass side with rivet nuts and swivel 1/4 pipe to 5/16 barbs for the fuel supply lines.
I think this is going to work out well...

For summary, The 75 now has a 100 micron pre filter into a Walbro pump and 6 AN PTFE braided lines and a new tank. A spin on 6-8 micron filter in the engine compartment for EZ service, located by the fresh air inlet so temp should not be an issue

As to “ NO pre pump filter aside from the tank screen” I have wondered why this is a good idea. Suppose that screen get clogged up: And your out on an open road ?

Mount your pump and filter under the steering rack panel. You won't have to pull the tank to service the pump or fuel filter.

JamesM addressed it correctly in post #3.

If you’re clogging the tank screen or a 100 micron filter you have far bigger problems to worry about.

Any fuel going into the tank from a fuel pump is already filtered to 10-30 micron depending on what filters the filling station is using.

No screen at all is also an acceptable (and possibly preferable) option. This is how it was done on Vanagons.

You want the least amount of restriction pre pump. Shortest, fatest, straightest suction lines possible with no filters restricting flow. Vacuum on the inlet side of the pump can cavitate the fuel which leads to a noisier fuel pump as well as potentially causing damage/shorter life to the pump. Depending on the condition and routing of the fuel lines it can also cause the feed line to collapse on itself causing fuel starvation.

Injectors require filtered fuel for long life the pump doesn't, it needs unrestricted fuel flow.

Maybe . . .

If you’re going to delete all pre-filtration you better know what type of fuel pump you’re using (turbine, gearotor, or rollervane, diaphragm or vibrating plunger like a Facet).

Turbine pumps are not forgiving if run without pre-filtration.

A 100 micron pre-filter doesn’t cause any significant restriction to the pump inlet nor does the OEM sock.
