Losing an engine is never a good thing, and it really sucks I'm sure. How did it run out of oil? smoking, dripping on the ground Without an autopsy, we are really just guessing based on the info we've been told. However, to update my previous posts: It is possible the motor didn't get properly refilled at the last oil change (for example, an empty oil filter can reduce oil in the crankcase when the motor is back up and running). How can we confirm the oil level was correct after the oil change? Maybe the oil pressure light was working, but didn't get noticed, particularly when the motor was starving for oil during periods of slosh (like turns)? So, there could have been multiple incidents of oil starvation? |

Cabman makes a point ,replace the oil pressure switch or fit a remote mechanical gauge, bring the oil up to full ,remove plugs and disable ignition and see if it turns over on the starter, can't make the issue worse IMO ,if it won't turn over at all I suspect will become evident .....sadly . |

"can't make the issue worse IMO" Sorry, don't agree. The motor is seized according to the OP. Cranking on it (among other things) could destroy a crankshaft or one that could have been saved. Cranking on it can bend/break things, like pushrods, valvetrain, etc. We are guessing that the bearings were starved of oil and seized. Maybe a piston seized. We just don't know and it's very unlikely that this motor magically will heal itself by cranking on it. But, YMMV. |
