One of my buddies (An american car enthusiest (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ar15.gif) ) also said new spark plug wires wouldn't hurt in case one of them is running a bum signal, thoughts?

Hah, you have a real nice bit of tin there! Mine is so old and poorly fitting I can see behind it. So no flywheel view for you! That is fine. If you had real improvements from the carb work I would just get that timing light and see how it goes with what you have. Any modified engine will have different needs from stock, particularly if your compression has changed. I would establish where your timing is now, and try advancing it a degree, see how it responds. If that improves things, try another degree. If advancing it doesn't improve things go the other way a degree. Once you feel like your getting good changes even a half degree can make a difference.

Do you have a cylinder head temperature gauge?

And yes. New wires couldn't hurt, but they do cost as much as a timing gun...

And by response, I mean taking it for a drive. Not just revving in the driveway.

I've acquired a timing gun, and hunted through my fan.

There was two marks, a red and a white mark, probably either from when auto atlanta built the first engine or when the shop installed it.

A white and a red paint mark. I could see them at different timings at different revs, but in it's current state of running okay here is where they lie.

The white mark is 7* at idle, ~30* at 3500 rpm

The red mark is 27* at idle, ~50* at 3500 rpm

There is no way im at 50* right... (right???) , so maybe the red is if setting at idle and white is setting at 3500?

also of note he reduced the fuel pressure from 3.5 to 3 lbs, said too much pressure would overwelm the carbs. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) if it works it works

The red mark has zero significance when using a dial back timing light.

Take a few minutes and read the attached link.
