still curious to know when the cops in the USA pull you over and pull out the ticket book.

It depends on a lot of things. Each state has its own rules and then even into the counties and towns.

Baltimore has a lot of cameras. But get out of the city and its pretty open. I mostly stay out of New Jersey and New York. Where I live in PA they will get you in the school zones, but for the most part the police won't bother you unless you are being a real ass.

Also, I use Waze a lot, and they do a pretty good job of noting speed cameras and police locations. It helps. Better then radar, IMO.

Yeah, just depends on the state as far as highway and interstate speeds ..

For instance a few years ago I was traveling at night to Florida from Texas. The speed limit was 75mph while in Texas, as soon as I crossed over into the state of Louisiana it dropped to 55mph - well you don't necessarily see that coming!! Just a short distance cross the state line I see what I perceived as a raggedy SUV pulled over on the side of the road, certainly not marked as a department vehicle.. as I passed it I noticed in my rear view mirror that it had a headlight out. I watch as it re-enters the roadway and very aggressively catches up to me and plants itself on my back bumper before ever turning on the pursuit lights!!

I mention that he'd pulled me over before any speed limit sign being posted (swear I hadn't passed one yet) and his aggressive driving with a headlight out - this pissed him off and he started talking about a trip to the station. I took the ticket - $230 if I recall.
