I love the look of a widebody car, but there is something about the look of the wheel wells of an unmolested 914 that just makes it look "right". I don't know if it is that the wheels on a widebody car are tucked in under the flares, so it just always looks small or what, but when I see something like the fifteen eleven car, it really appears perfect to me. At least in its stance.

I have tried searching the forums for conversations about possibly modifying a widebody to have a more symmetrically circular wheel opening so that the wheel wasn't so tucked in and seemingly small, but I haven't found anything, so forgive me if this has been discussed. I have found some discussions about the fifteen eleven 914, but mainly just pointing out it exists or how much someone does or does not like aspects of it.

Also, I know that changing the openings so they are more circular maybe takes away from what makes a 914 a 914, but mine is already modified a lot from its former owner, and I want to make it something special for me, so forgive me if this seems anathema to other 914 owners. My car stance is just off, and I know I could get even wider meats on the wheels, but they will still be tucked in too much for my liking.

I want them out closer to the edge of the flare and not covered up. Maybe it just reminds me of an old fashioned 50's Buick with fender skirts, and that is not what I want a Porsche 914 to be.

Has anyone rounded out the openings on a stock 914, or done the same on a flared widebody like the photo above? Also, is there some reason why I shouldn't (mechanically, not aesthetically!)? Specifically, I am looking at an AIR SCCA widebody kit package or maybe a Sheridan kit and wanting to modify those pieces' lines on both the front and rear fenders. I would like to hear from others about if they have done this and how they went about it, and what it looks like and how good or bad the process went.

Thanks.

Brian
