I get it. Guess I just prefer a narrow body car.

I’m admittedly old school, actually just old, but I don’t get the addition of flares on a 1.8 grocery getter. There’s plenty of other things to spend time and money on with a 914. Good luck with your build.

Yeah, I love the look of the flares, the whole 916 look for that matter.
My "old school" is different. I was really into cars when I was young. The 3rd car that I ever owned was a 914/6 that I purchased (used) from a Porsche/Audi dealer in Santa Monica. When I saw the 916 come out, I fell in love with that car. I believe that was 1973. The flares were not available then but I painted the entire car silver like the one I saw in Road & Track.
There are a lot of cars and car projects that I personally "don't get", I don't comment. If you are enjoying the hobby go for it.

The 2.7L/6 I drove daily for 3 years back in the early to mid 2000's had glass flares that the PO installed, or had installed.. I drove the crap out of it, not babied at all - the glass flares were fine and never cracked on the street. I think they're a good option and would consider using FG again if the budget wasn't there for the OVER priced steel flares. Actually, maybe even if the budget was there.. depending on build level your shooting for (like you mentioned). (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif)
