The picture does not look anything like a 914 MC

its the one WITH „Warnkontakt“. simply compare to the pictured ATE brake cylinder without the provision for the contact.
BTW, I‘ve installed exact this one in my car …

I see the URO brand available at several places for $100 +/- ... are they known to be complete trash?

No, they are exact repros which work flawless.
Besides that, the MC is a quite simple part.

Some uro parts are ok, some aren’t. I will NEVER use a uro MC in any of our customers cars or my own.
If an ATE mc fails, it’s extremely unexpected.
If a uro mc fails, it’s more of an - “I told you so”.

Do I have any proof to back that up, no, I don’t.
Would I pay $900 instead of using a uro mc, yes.
