I searched for that p/n for a schematic of it or a layout or pinout. Didn't find much. Maybe the schematic from the vehicle this was used in?

Easiest to simply check true continuity of each of the connecting poles (circuits) relative to each position of the switch. Ohmmeter with a buzzer is the tool of choice.

Do you have a multimeter? Set to ohms and put one lead on the 15 post. Then pull out the switch and see what opens at each setting.

58 and 31 should just for the switch's backlight.

Every fog light switches I've seen will turn on the front fogs on the first click, then the front and rear on the second, but you'll have to verify this one yourself. I can't guess what position 3 would be for.

So far: Switch on: I connected 31 and I with a 9v battery; that turned on the orange switch light when switch is pulled out.

The Fog light switch has two positions; one for turning on the front fog lamps and a second position for a rear fog lamp. Unlike the 914 fog lamp switch, this 911 switch has two on positions: pulled out and pulled out and twisted to the left
Today I tested connectivity between 15 and I, II, III
Results: switch pulled- continuity between 15 and I and III
Switch pulled- continuity between I, and II

@jim_hoyland

This looks like the switch.

I looks like the rear defogger level 1
II looks like the rear defogger level 2
III powers the front defogger
58 is power from the dash lights. Looks like a resistor between 58 and the bulb so the bulb lights up gently with lights on. When the switch is active, the bulb gets full power and bright through pin 15.

Here's a thread about the switch on Pelican Parts from 20 years ago: 2 Stage Defogger Switch - Wiring

Thanks (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) The diagram explain a lot.
To light the front fog lamp and turn on a rear fog light :
31= ground
15 = fused 12v power
58 = dash light connection
III = front fog lights
I = rear fog light

I don’t use II

So you'll just use the pull setting I & III, not the pull/twist I & II?

It looks like I and III (stage 1 rear + front) come on with a pull.

Then I and II power with the twist and III is off.

You're using it for front and rear fog lights, correct?

If you go I and III, both F and R come on together with a pull, then with a twist, I remains powered and III goes out.

At least that's how I think they work.

If you go I and II, I comes on with a pull, then II comes on with a twist and I stays on.

You decide which is front and which is rear.

Thanks (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Looks like I & II are what I’m looking at.
Gonna do a bench test 1st using a 9 volt battery and two bulbs.

Looking at the schematic for the switch, the lamp should get bright when the switch is pulled (red arrow) or when the switch is turned (yellow arrow).

The purple arrow shows how the lamp is powered by the dash illumination through pin 58.

I have the feeling that this switch design was used for defogging front & rear windows, wipers for front and rear, as well as fog lights for front and rear.
This switch allows for separate control of front and rear; either separately or together.
