WHOA! Is that your car!? That looks like a ton of work. Replacing those two shelves seems manageable, but not critical path for now.

That being said, no telling how long the motor builder is going to take, I may have more time than I realize. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

If my parts from Pelican show up I will mock up the oil cooler brackets and see what I can make of that.

Thank you both for checking in on my project.

I’m a sucker for projects

Agree with your plan. People get freaked about rust but what you have is very manageable.

The fact that you’re not afraid of dropping an engine is (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) and makes it easier when the time comes to deal with the rust at your convenience.

Don't rush. Take your time and repair the rust in the engine bay with the engine out. Big difference between the 1.8 and a 2056.

I got great news feom Ken Jansen yesterday! He called to let me know the 2056 long block is assembled and ready to have the cam broken in. I swung by today to settle up on the bill. Motor looks good!

general motor specs:
2056cc (forged pistons)
OEM rods
Raby FI Cam
New lifters
8.3:1 compression
New 2.0 heads (disassembled and gone through)
Full flow
Setrab external oil cooler adapter
911 elephant foot swivel rockers
ARP head and case through studs
New clutch/pressure plate
Balanced rotating assembly
123 Distributor
Most likely forgot something else we did...

Still left to do:
Install all the powder coated tins, fan, fan shroud
Break in the cam (will break it in with carbs)
Reassemble the ljet
Weld on the afr bung
Mount setrab oil cooler
Wire uo fan controller
Wire up the afr
Wire up the cht sender & gauge
Get harnesses from El Jeffe
Figure out how to adapt the GoWesty throttlebody
Get 15x6 Fuchs back from restoration
Get 15" tires & install
Get alternator rebuilt
Etc. Etc.

Too much to do!!

I keep finding things to keep me busy while I wait for the motor,. Today I decided to work on the final adjustments on the right trunk hinge, paint the engine grills, and finish cleaning up the engine bay. If I don't get the motor back soon, Im going to have thw whole car blown apart!

Thank you! 1966, L79 C2 - Mosport Green/Green interior. Fun car.

The 914 is slowly coming along. I should have the motor back later this week and then I need to reassemble everything and pray that I get the Ljet installed properly and that it fires up. I'm torn between installing the GoWesty throttle body and 123 Distributor at the same time. My gut tells me to start with the stock distributor and throttle body and get it running right first, then switch over each component one at a time, to help with debugging things as I go.

I'm still trying to decide on which tires for the 15x6 Fuchs.

Current punch list:
Get alternator rebuilt
Weld on the afr bung
Mount setrab oil cooler
Get 15x6 Fuchs back from restoration
Install fan, fan shroud
Break in the cam (will break it in with carbs)
Get harnesses back from El Jeffe
Install alternator
Install all the powder coated tins & gaskets
Reassemble the ljet
Set thermostat cable/flaps
Wire up fan controller for oil cooler
Wire up the afr sensor
Wire up the cht sender & gauge
Finish MC install and bleed brakes
Fill Transmission with fluid
Install circuit board and heater blower
Get new battery and install
Install Motor, exhaust
Get it running in the car
Figure out how to adapt and install the GoWesty throttle body
Figure out how install A123 Distributor
Get 15" tires & install
Adjust right trunk hinge to fix uneven gaps

Pray

Long list of 'to do' items

The 123 distributor is pretty simple. Not sure about the throttle body because I have dual Webers on mine. I set mine to #3 and that curve worked very well for my 86a web cam.
You basically hook it up while your #1 cylinder is at TDC with the black wire disconnected. Pull the cap and you will see a green light on under the aluminum disk. Turn the distributor slowly until the green light goes out, the slowly the opposite direction until it comes back on. Now you are ready to start the car. You can then use your timing light to advance it after you break in the cam.

@chad911sc - thank you! I have the Blueteeth one, so hopefully it works as well as the manual one you have.

This weekend I spent a little time on the 914 and knocked out some items on the punch list.

I was able to get the engine grills painted, the replacement letters applied, the engine lid reinstalled and adjusted properly, the trunk hinge relocated, surface rust cleaned up in the rear trunk, sanded the trunk floor, and primed and repainted the trunk floor. Now I need to remove the trunk and wrestle that spring back into position.

OH! I also managed to get the new tires mounted on the restored Fuchs.

Get alternator rebuilt
Weld on the afr bung
Mount setrab oil cooler
Get 15x6 Fuchs back from restoration
Install fan, fan shroud
Get 15" tires & install
Adjust right trunk hinge to fix uneven gaps
Repaint engine grills on engine cover
install new P O R S C H E letters on engine cover
Get new battery and install

Break in the cam (will break it in with carbs)
Get harnesses back from El Jeffe
Install alternator
Install all the powder coated tins & gaskets
Reassemble the ljet
Set thermostat cable/flaps
Wire up fan controller for oil cooler
Wire up the afr sensor
Wire up the cht sender & gauge
Finish MC install and bleed brakes
Fill Transmission with fluid
Install circuit board and heater blower
Install Motor, exhaust
Get it running in the car
Figure out how to adapt and install the GoWesty throttle body
Figure out how install A123 Distributor

The list is getting smaller. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
